SENHIT YOHANNES MEHARI It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Senhit Yohannes Mehari tragically in the afternoon hours of Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre at the tender age of 19. Left to cherish Senhit's memory are her father Yohannes Mehari, her mother Tensae Hagherai, her brother Yonatan Mehari, her grandma Asmeret Ghebresellasie, numerous uncles, aunties, cousins and many close and loving friends. Senhit graduated from High School at Dakota Collegiate, and was attending the University of Manitoba and taking pre-business administration courses until this terrible tragedy occurred. Senhit was born in Winnipeg on March 27, 1991 and grew up in St. Vital in the warmth of her loving parents and her younger brother. Senhit was intelligent, outgoing but humble, respectful and caring. Senhit was a meticulous planner, hardworking and serious about her studies and all things that she wanted to accomplish. Senhit always radiated with a broad smile when approaching people and has always wanted to help others in any situations that she could, including tutoring younger students at the Eritrean Community Centre. She liked to volunteer a lot and has been an active member of the annual Folklorama events representing the Eritrean Community at the Africa Pavilion and had served as a Youth Ambassador at the same event once. Senhit always wanted to learn new things. Although she was born in Canada, she was able to proudly learn her ancestral mother tongue of Tigrigna fluently. She also was a member of her community church choir and had a beautiful voice. Senhit was a shining star that was an embodiment of a genuine community gem whose life was cut short way too soon. She will be sorely missed. Prayer service and viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the premises located at 2005 St. Mary's Road, St. Vital, Winnipeg. Interment will follow at the St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road, south of St. Vital Park, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 11:30 a.m. A special thank you goes out to the many friends from numerous communities, the young friends of Senhit and neighbours who have come and continue to come to comfort us in this very difficult time; and all of the medical and surgical staff at the S.I.C.U. Health Sciences Centre for their valiant endeavour to save Senhit's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Winnipeg Chapter, 202-2621 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg MB. • I Wasen"t friends with Senhit but my brother Matthew knew Senhit and he said Senhit was always kind and caring and she was well liked from all of her friends. Senhit was a very good friend to my brother me and my brother and my parents. we had just moved back to Winnipeg from Brandon and I remember me and my brother's first day of school at Dakota. Senhit befriended my brother and not for a minute did Senhit hesitate to become friends with my brother she introduced my brother to all the students at Dakota and then he quickly began to make friends. if it Wasen't for Senhit my brother would not have made friends at Dakota Collegiate. I would just like to say thank you to Senhit for being such a good friend to my brother. she will be greatly missed by all who knew her and all of her friends - Posted by: Ashley Reimer (Knew Senhit from Dakota School ) on: Sep 05, 2013
