PAUL EMILE ALBERT LAGASSE (PEAL) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Emile on December 12, 2010 at St. Boniface General Hospital from cancer of the pancreas. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gisèle Lapointe, son Alain (fiancée Natalie Gérardy), daughter Natalie; his siblings Michelle (Dan Chatham), Guy, Roland (Lyette), Jacqueline, and Jacques; sisters-in-law Carrie Lagassé, Huguette (Marc) Bérard, Line Delorme, Paulette (Claude) Devigne; brothers-in-law Marc Lapointe, Denis (Brenda) Lapointe, Paul (Lise) Lapointe; nieces and nephews; many cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jeffrey and Armande Lagassé; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Henri and Fernande Lapointe. Paul grew up in St. Vital on Hastings Blvd. He attended Ecole St. Eugene, Ecole St. Adolphe, St. Norbert High School and graduated form the University of Manitoba in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil). He first worked for Underwood McLellan Limited (UMA), both in Winnipeg and in Edmonton. Since 1984 he had been employed with the Water and Waste Department of the City of Winnipeg. Paul enjoyed challenges both in the realm of engineering as well as in his pastimes. Whether playing tennis, racketball, motorcycle riding or teaching himself to windsurf, Paul had a thirst for learning and willingly shared his knowledge with family, friends and colleagues. He often said: I'm a jack-of-all trades and master of none . In the 1970's he would stay up late into the night learning about computers, eventually writing his own programs. Following a diagnosis of congestive heart failure in 2004, he took charge in the kitchen and became the household's head chef. His red tool box was always included in the vacation luggage and he never left a summer cottage without fixing something. He was a passionate man when debating an issue or telling a story. He had a great love of music and could play the guitar for hours. Although cynical at times, he had a great sense of humour. The family wishes to thank the nurses and attendants of E5, Cancer Care Manitoba and the Cardiac Program of SBGH as well as Dr. Semus, Dr. R. Wong, Dr. S. Zieroth, Dr. Lipschitz and Dr. Moran de Mueller for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to Hôpital St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, for heart or cancer care. LeClaire Brothers in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
