EDNA MAY BURGESS April 6, 1914 - January 9, 2011 It is appointed unto man once to die... Hebrews 9:27 Edna kept her appointment with her Saviour and Lord and was welcomed into His presence the evening of January 9, 2011 in the company of family members, Cathie, Keith and Bill. Left to remember and honour her are nephews Bill Burgess, Tim Sanders (Carla), Danny Sanders and nieces Roberta Burgess and Cathie McDowell (Keith), great-nephew Kyle (Vanessa and their children Liam, Gavin, Kailee and Skyler) and great-nieces Kelsey, Stephanie and Melanie. Edna was predeceased by her parents William Austin Burgess and Mary Ellen (Alldritt) Burgess in 1947 and 1957 respectively and by her siblings, Francis Elmer Burgess 1986, Olive Muriel Sanders in 2000, Elizabeth Alldritt Stock in 1992, Wilfred Roy Burgess 1999, Annie Evelyn Burgess in 2008 and nephew Paul Sanders. Edna was born at home on April 6, 1914 in Silver Creek Municipality near Foxwarren and Angusville. She completed grade eight at Boyle School. She valued education and after completion of high school she began her working career making eighteen cents an hour to save for post secondary education. She would have preferred to become a teacher like her mother but being cost prohibitive, at the age of 24, graduated with a diploma in clerical studies from Dominion Business School. Furthering her education was a life-long quest and in her early forties became a student once again attending Winnipeg Bible Institute and College of Theology. In April, 1956, she was awarded a teacher's diploma qualifying her to teach the preliminary certificate course and supervising in a church school. Edna's greatest passion was her relationship with Jesus Christ and by extension the spiritual welfare of those close to her. With her eye on eternity, she prayed fervently for family members to embrace her Saviour. Within the past year and a half she worshipped at Faith Bible Church whenever health permitted. At the time of her homegoing Edna was a resident at West Park Manor. To her caregivers at the manor is owed a huge debt of gratitude for tenderly, compassionately and with dignity transitioning her from this life to the next. Your care exhibited the best of humanity - bless you! A memorial service for Edna will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Thomson In the ParK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
