ELSIE COAVE (ZECHOVAL) Born June 19, 1919 in Breslau, Germany. Surrounded by family, Elsie (Ilse) passed away on November 4, 2010 at the Vancouver General Hospital, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Freidreich and Meta Tichauer. The Tichauer family immigrated to Moosehorn, Manitoba in 1931. At 18, Elsie set out for a year long working holiday with relatives in New Zealand, the memories of this trip made her a lifelong armchair traveller. Elsie married Samuel Zechoval in 1939 in Moosehorn. Elsie and Sam were very dedicated to making sure their children remembered their Jewish roots. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1951 so their offspring could get a Jewish education and Laurrie could have a Bar Mitzvah. In the 1960s, Elsie moved to Vancouver where she loved the warmer winters and proximity to her family. Elsie was predeceased by brother Gunter Tauers and is survived by a sister Ursula Walker. Mother of Laurrie Zechoval, Myra Thorkelson (Jim), Nancy Zipursky (Gerry) and Rande (Shelly) Zechoval. Grandmother of Adrian, Arielle, Casey, Donovan, Max, Rebecca, Sam, Talei, Tammy, Tara (Tom), Tory (Hye-ah) and Tracy. Great-grandmother of Ashley, Jean, Paige, Payton, and Taylor. Elsie will always be remembered by her family for her enthusiasm for music, first singing whenever she was happy and later, dancing behind her walker at the Louis Brier. Fashion was important to Elsie and one never saw her walking through her beloved Eaton's without a tam and a matching outfit. She instilled a passion for acceptance, tolerance and respect for others in her children. Her favourite sayings, Always treat others as you wish to be treated and Whatever you put into the lives of others will come back into your own . The family wishes to thank both the staff of the Louis Brier Home, Elsie's home for the last six years of her life, and the staff at the Vancouver General Hospital for the care and compassion shown to our mother. If desired, donations can be made to the Elsie Coave Memorial Fund. (foundation@louisbrier.com) or www.parkinson.org
