GUDMUNDUR INGIBERG MARKUSSON (MUNDI) May 13, 1928 - January 15, 2011 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Mundi, on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the age of 82. Mundi passed away at home, with his wife and brother by his side. Mundi, son of Johannes and Emilia; beloved husband of Ethel; father to Shauna (Bob) Trueman, Lorne (Gail) Markusson, and Jo-Ann (Steven) Brignoly. Afi to Brennan (Cherine), Scott (Steph), and Stephanie Trueman; Kristjan, Johann, Justin, and Lindsey Markusson; Jenna and Jessica Brignoly, and lang Afi to Trentin. Mundi is survived by his brother Albert; sister Sigurros (Robert) Kristjanson; his sisters-in-law Inga Solmundson, Gertie (Einar), Kathy, Thorunn and Ollie Einarson and brother-in-law Lawrence Einarson. Mundi was predeceased by his son Lorne (1999); mother Emily (2001) and father Johannes (2009). He was also pre deceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law Steve, Halli, Gordon and Jonas (Shirley) Einarson, Hope Solmundson and Margaret Markusson; his niece Jolene Einarson and nephew Jerry Marks. Mundi grew up on the family farm in Arnes, MB and attended school at Finns. Mundi was a farmer and a fisherman, among many other trades. Mundi completed his training as a diesel mechanic in 1948. He and Ethel were married in the Arnes Lutheran Church, on September 30, 1950. They moved to Gimli, where he worked as an automotive mechanic. In 1955 Mundi and Ethel purchased a corner grocery store. In 1965 they expanded the business, building a new store, which they operated as Markusson Foods until 1993. Mundi was a man of many talents: building the store, his houses and always fixing cars, lawn mowers, and everything in between. His children, grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends often sought out his wealth of knowledge. He was happy to share his expertise with others and always enjoyed the company of his family and friends. During his retirement, Mundi developed a passion for jigsaw puzzles and his birds in the back yard. He will forever be remembered by his family for living his life honestly and full of integrity. Mundi will be forever missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Ethel; his children; grandchildren; and great-grandson. The family would like to thank the EMS staff, GCHC staff and Dr. R. Gera. At Mundi's request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Goda Nott Elskan
