KATHRYN WALZ Strong, caring, and no-nonsense to the very end, Kathy Walz died of cancer on January 20, 2011. Kathy is survived by her husband Gene Walz, her daughters Michelle and Leah, her grandson Torsten, her dog Buddy and many friends. A school psychologist for many years, Kathy worked throughout Winnipeg and especially in St. Vital. She loved the children that others found difficult and she used her work with them as an excuse to amass an elaborate toy collection. She loved to travel and recently visited Kenya, Tanzania, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and the American southwest. Some of her fondest memories were of people she met and scenery she experienced while working on the Canadian census in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Kathy was a fearless skydiver in her youth and, at various points in her life, was an active member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club, a garage sale maven, an avid photographer, and a social networking wizard. She was also a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Kathy's favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society. My heartfelt condolences to Gene, Michelle and Leah. I only met Kathy a few times over the years, but she stuck in my memory all this time as the warmest and sweetest of people, a truly wonderful! person. Your family has been blessed by her, and of course she lives on in your every action from these days forward. Thinking of you all. Love, Guy - Posted by: Guy Maddin (Family) on: Jan 23, 2011
