COLIN WILLIAM HOCKING It is with loving memories and sad hearts that we announce the passing of Colin W. Hocking on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Victoria Hospital at the age of 49 years. Colin will be dearly missed by his mother Nan Hocking; wife Sheilagh; daughters Natalie and Lisa. He was predeceased by his father, William Hocking. Soccer was Colin's first love, which he in turn shared with his family. He was involved in the soccer community, having played, coached, and served on various boards. As soccer convener at St. Norbert Community Centre, Colin had the opportunity to spread his love of the game. Some of his proudest moments (other than the birth of his girls) included being part of the coaching staff at Saint Norbert Collegiate when the boys team won Provincials in 1996, as well as going to Nationals with his daughter's U14 team in 2007. Through soccer, he touched many lives. Fishing was another of Colin's great loves, and friends enjoyed hearing his fishing tales. He was quite the arborist, as well - with guidance and wisdom he gained from his father-in-law, and he made sure the neighbourhood trees were suitably pruned. One of Colin's most admirable qualities was being supportive of whatever ventures his daughters pursued. On Friday, January 28, 2011 a Celebration of Colin's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Norbert Community Centre, 3450 Pembina Hwy. Feel free to wear a soccer jersey as a tribute to Colin's love of the game. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial donation in Colin's name at Assiniboine Credit Union, where the proceeds will be put towards the purchase of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) that the family would like to place in La Barriere Crossing School. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
