Date of Passing: Feb 09, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER DAHL With sadness we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Peter Dahl, early Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011. Peter died peacefully at Concordia Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his son Carl (Marilyn), their children, Aaron, Peter, Nikolas; daughter Irene Enns (Ron), children, Joel, Allison, Charles; and sister Mary Dahl. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Cornelia (Nellie) in 2008; his parents, Peter and Helena Dahl; and sister Helen Dahl. Peter was born on May 29, 1925, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up near LaSalle, Manitoba on the extended Dahl family farm where he spent his early years alongside cousins, aunts and uncles. In 1936, his family moved to their own farm in nearby Domain, Manitoba. He left school at an early age, to work full-time with his father on the farm. He married Cornelia Fast in 1952. For 15 years, they farmed together, commuting between homes in Domain and Winnipeg. Peter farmed in the summers, and spent winters delivering furnace oil for the Imperial Oil Co. In 1967 he chose to stop farming, and began working for the family business, C. A. DeFehr Sons, in Winnipeg as a warehouse foreman. A number of years ago, he and Nellie sold their family home of nearly 50 years and moved into a condominium at Stornaway on the Red, where they enjoyed a new community of friends and acquaintances. Nellie, who was everything to Peter, died suddenly and unexpectedly two and one half years ago. He surprised us all by the courage he showed in bravely carrying on, though his longing always was to be with her soon. He had an unwavering and uncomplicated faith and absolute certainty of God's grace in his life. This was his daily strength. His friends, extended family, Elmwood church and the community at Stornaway were so supportive of him. He felt deeply loved and he appreciated them so very much and we thank them for the many ways they cared for him. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Highway. A viewing will be held at Friends Funeral Services, 2146 Main Street on Sunday evening, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, Siloam Mission or charity of your choice. Death is not extinguishing the light It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come. Tagore
