WILLIAM ORVILLE (BILL) MCEWEN William (Bill) Orville McEwen of Blue Grass Sod Farms, Red Deer, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Friday, February 25, 2011 at the age of 72. He was born on July 23, 1938 in Minitonas, Manitoba to Elizabeth and Bert McEwen. Bill and his wife Gail moved the family to Alberta and created Blue Grass Sod Farms together west of Red Deer and lived 41 years in Poplar Ridge Community. His passion was his work but later in life Grandpa mellowed and lived for the grandkids. He leaves behind his wife Merna; sons Bradley, Bruce, Bill Jr. (Barbara); daughter Kim (Dennis) Cressey and mother of his children Gail McEwen. He will be especially remembered by his grandchildren Dustin, Bryana, Megan, Logan, Jessica and Wyatt. He also shared grandchildren with Merna: Kendra and Ruthie Gerlitz, Nathan, Grace, MacKenzie and Michael Snow. He is also survived by his siblings Mel (Jean) McEwen, Myrtle (Jim) Smith, Merv (Linda) McEwen siblings. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will remember Bill. He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings Russel, Ethel, Duncan and Clara. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Poplar Ridge Hall west of Red Deer on Highway 11A to RR 283, turn south and the hall is on the east side of the road.
