Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH LOUISE BURKE With heavy hearts and deep sorrow we announce the passing of Edith Burke on March 4, 2011. Edith was born on October 26, 1938 in Peterborough, ON but lived most of her life in Winnipeg. Predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Lillian Turner, Edith will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 50 years Ron; son Ken (Kathy), granddaughters Rachel and Rebecca; daughter Cathy, grandson Timothy; sister Nancy Pickering (Bryan), nieces Anne and Christine; sister-in-law Shirley Eppler of Chilliwack, niece Elaine, nephew Jeffrey, as well as many relatives and friends. Edith was known for her love of life, giving nature and always remembering to do the small things that made people feel special and loved. Edith was devoted to her husband, family and friends. Her wonderful sense of humour taught us that humour is a great way to see life. A natural when it came to cooking she loved to host family gatherings planning and preparing delicious dinners and deserts for everyone to enjoy. After updating her qualifications at the University of Manitoba, Edith began a 14 year career in Recreation at Deer Lodge Centre planning programs and entertainment for the residents. A position she truly loved. Edith and Ron purchased property on Medicine Creek in the Clandeboye area in 1972. A cottage was built and this became the summer and weekend getaway. In 1998 Edith and Ron fully retired and sold the family home of 36 years on Lodge Avenue in St. James; realizing their dream of permanently moving to Medicine Creek. Edith expanded her passion for gardening there, lovingly tending to the many flower beds through out the yard. Edith loved the game of curling. She curled with the Deer Lodge Ladies for over 22 years, plus the Selkirk Ladies and the Selkirk Senior Ladies curling clubs. A member of the Red Hat Society, Edith always looked forward to the next luncheon and outing with the girls, they loved to browse vintage shops to see who would be lucky enough to find the most outrageous outfit. This past July, many fond memories were shared with family and friends at a road house party held to celebrate Edith and Ron's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Over the past six years, Edith and Ron spent winters in Osoyoos, BC enjoying the fun and fellowship with other prairie snow birds. In the past year, Edith was surrounded by many wonderful people. We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, support staff and friends for the excellent medical care, compassion and kindness provided to her. A celebration of Edith's life will be held on Thursday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Clandeboye United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, or to Clandeboye United Church, PO Box 149, Clandeboye, MB R0C 0P0.
