HELENE TARKO (nee TEFFAINE) Peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2011, Hélène passed away at Foyer Valade at the age of 98 years. She was predeceased by husband, Joseph, daughter Odette and infant son. She will be forever treasured and deeply missed by her daughters Lorette (late Henri) Delaquis, Muriel (René) Monchalin, sons Ronald (Winnifred), and Normand (Debbie), 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, one sister Ida (late Meinrad) Roch. Mom lived a fulfilled life of love, work and prayer. She was a woman of determination with lots of courage and inner strength which sustained her throughout her hardships in life. Mom has been a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She was an amazing cook and hosted countless lunches and dinners with family and friends which were followed by numerous card games of 500 Mom and Dad's favourite pastime. At the age of 92, Mom was welcomed as a resident at Foyer Valade. She continued to be independent and active. There was never a dull moment. She spent time with her new friends reminiscing the good old days, browsing through the livre du centenaire paroissial de Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes , or playing cards. She made daily visits in the Chapel praying for all her loved ones as she was a woman of great faith. Saturday nights were devoted to listening to Old Time Music on the radio. During winter she never missed watching Curling, her favourite sport. The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated and wonderful staff of Foyer Valade for their compassion, support and tender loving care. Mom loved you all! Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11 at St. Eugène Parish, 1007 St. Mary's Road, with Fr. Kevin Bettens officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to La Fondation du Foyer Valade, 450 River Road, Winnipeg, MB R2M 4M5.
