GARNET ALVIN FLEMINGTON After a very brief fight with cancer, Garnet Alvin Flemington passed peacefully into the arms of his loving Saviour on Wednesday evening, March 9, 2011. He leaves to cherish his wonderful wife, Marian Rose (Cookshaw), children, Heather Bage (Tony), Colin Flemington (Kerry), Karla Douglas (Shawn), 10 deeply loved grandchildren, brother Kevin Miller, sisters, Karen Branson and Terry Miller. Garnet was born on July 31, 1945 in Maryfield, SK to Vivian Beryle Flemington. He was raised on his grandparents' farm, where he first discovered the joys of tinkering. Whether it was fixing old cars, rigging up a washing machine motor to a bicycle, or his accomplish-ments as a carpenter, Garnet never backed down from trying something new. And whatever he did, he did it well and with the intent that his workmanship would stand the test of time. Garnet met the love of his life, Marian, in the fall of 1971, and the rest is history. Three children and 10 grandchildren later, Garnet and Marian were able to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary on March 4th. Garnet loved his family deeply and showed that love by passing on his zest for life to his children and grandchildren. He loved to tinker with Colin, sing with Karla, joke with Heather, and get down and play with his grandkids. Garnet was also a gifted musician; there was nothing quite so lovely as Garn on his guitar, singing old standards or favourite hymns. Garnet accepted Christ as his Saviour in the winter of 1984. Although Garnet wasn't a man who delved deeply into theological discussions, his faith was wonderfully simple and refreshing. As such, his faith had a deep impact on his family and those who came to know him. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. We love you and miss you already but we hold onto this : Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • It’s been 10 years since Dad went Home. Every day I think of him, of his gentleness, his kindness, but especially of the hurts that he never spoke of. So much of it he kept inside to spare everyone else of sadness or discomfort, all at the expense of his own comfort and healing. I am glad that he is now in Eternal Peace in the arms of an Awesome God and a Loving Saviour who always knew his heart of hearts, and chose him to be His. I miss him dearly, but he is truly at rest and that is worth more than all the hugs I’ve needed for the past decade. - Posted by: Heather Bage (Daughter ) on: May 02, 2021
