Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON BRUNO MERKE It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Bruno Merke at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Gordon went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2011. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Eileen, sons Vincent (Giselle) and Darrel; three grandchildren, Kristen, Ryan and Robin; three great-grandchildren, Amelia, Keelah and Harlow; his sister, Margaret and his brother, Norman. He was predeceased by his parents, Gustav and Matilda Merke and his sister, Gertrude. Gordon was born in Whitemouth on June 12, 1934 and on December 11, 1954 he married Eileen Buss. Gordon was a strong, hardworking man. He was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and all sports, especially curling. He also enjoyed walking and met many friends on his routes. His first job was working for the CPR railway for 15 years. In 1968 Gordon and Eileen owned and operated a restaurant and garage in Whitemouth. After the sale of the business, Gordon worked for Agassiz School Division for several years and then retired in Whitemouth. In 2004, they relocated to Beausejour where they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing at 12:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, First St. N and Gertrude Ave., Beausejour, with Pastor Bart Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordon's memory to the Zion Lutheran Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend many thanks to all the paramedics, doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks and Beausejour Hospitals for the excellent care Gordon received. Special thanks to Dr. Nick Van Rensburg. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts.
