ADRIAN PETRUS SMEETS 1924 - 2011 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of our dear dad and husband at the age of 86 on March 21, 2011 at the Brummit-Feasby A.L.S. House in Winnipeg. Adrian is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Corrie, and his three daughters: Margaret (Gene), Linda (Keith) and Jennifer (Ken); grandchildren: Melina, Riley, Connor and Elle; as well as his brothers Joe (Winnipeg) and Piet (The Netherlands). He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Thera; brothers Louis and Frans, and sisters Wies and Maria, all from the Netherlands. Dad was born and raised in Tilburg, The Netherlands and after marrying his sweetheart, Corrie, immigrated to Canada in 1956 where they started their lives together. He enjoyed interacting with people and was very skilled in his sales. Throughout his career he was employed by Prudential Insurance, The Bay and Sears where he retired at the age of 65 only to begin another phase of his life as a Commissionaire at the Winnipeg International Airport. This may have been his favourite job, as he did not retire again until the age of 75. Outside of work he enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, gardening and spending time with family and friends. In his retirement years he was always on the go and you could always find him having coffee at Tim Horton's with the local crowd. Dad was diagnosed with A.L.S. over a year ago. He spent the last five months of his life at the Brummit-Feasby A.L.S. House where he received exceptional care and compassion. Regardless of his disease, when asked how he was doing he would always say not bad for a youngster . The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the A.L.S. House for attending to our Dad's every need while treating him with respect and dignity. We appreciate everything you did for our Dad and for the family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25 at 12:30 p.m. in Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the A.L.S. Society, Brummit-Feasby House, 106 Kirby Drive, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0E8. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald St. 253-5086
