ELIZABETH (BETTE) M. SHICK June 4, 1941 - April 2, 2011 Bette succumbed to the effects of a hemorrhagic stroke on Saturday morning, April 2, 2011, at 6:10 a.m. Her untimely passing was a devastating blow to her family and those who knew her. Bette was a stenographer for the Manitoba Government prior to dedicating herself to the care of her family who she dearly loved and held as the utmost priority throughout her life. Leading a modest life, she relished her role as wife and mother and selflessly thought of and tended to their needs before her own. Bette was born in Dauphin, Manitoba where she met and eventually married Clayton Shick who predeceased her in January 2007. Together they expanded their family to include Charlene (Toronto), Doug and son Britain (Regina) and Greg (Winnipeg). Bette is survived by her mother Pauline Hafichuk, brother Ron Hafichuk (Crystal and Tom), sister-in-law Noreen Drosdowech (Mel), Darren, Kerri, Noelle and their families and brother-in-law Dennis Shick (Nick and Kyle and his family). She was predeceased by her father, William Hafichuk and brother Ted Hafichuk (Donna, Doug, Brad and his family) Bette enjoyed volunteering at VanWollingham High School where she assisted youth with reading activities in the library. She loved doing anything for the benefit of her growing family, including sewing, cooking, knitting, and baking personalized birthday cakes which were eagerly anticipated every year. Her hobbies included reading, being out in her backyard tending to her garden, doing crossword puzzles, and socializing with her neighbours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. We would like to give heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful people who comforted us in our time of need and worked so hard on our behalf. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations, if so desired, may be forwarded to Health Sciences Centre, 820 Sherbrook, St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3A 1R9.
