Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGIUSEPPE (JOE) COLLERONE Peacefully, on April 5, 2011, Giuseppe Collerone passed away at the Grace General Hospital. He leaves to mourn Concetta (Tina), his devoted wife of over 56 years. Joe was born in Barrafranca, Sicily on September 26, 1923. As a young man, he and his brothers farmed the rich soils of Sicily. Together, they cultivated fields of wheat, maintained a small vineyard, and tended to fruit and vegetable orchards. It was during that period that Joe learned he had a knack for making most things grow and developed his tree grafting skills. He maintained his passion for gardening and grafting trees all his life. In October 1954, Joe married Concetta Catanese, and in September 1960 they moved to Winnipeg. During his initial years in Winnipeg, Joe worked for the Atlas Brush Company. Later, he moved to Motor Coach Industries and finally on to The Hudson Bay Company, from where he retired in 1983. In addition to gardening, Joe enjoyed making wine and hunting for small game with his brother Calogero and his brother-in-law Girolamo. Joe had the good fortune of four brothers and sisters. While his brother Calogero (and wife Giuseppina) is the only one who immigrated to Canada, his brother Salvatore and sister Adelina remained in Italy. His sister Lucia predeceased him in Italy. In Winnipeg, he also leaves to mourn his brother-in-law Francesco Catanese (wife Santina), sisters-in-law Maria Lao (husband Girolamo) and Licia Lovetri (husband Nunzio) and numerous nieces and nephews including Joe and Darlene Collerone, Dina Laforges, Lucy and Marvin McMillan, Sal and Ibi Lao, Tony and Silvana Catanese, Joe and Karen Lovetri, Antonio Lovetri, and many others back in Italy. Uncle Joe will always be remembered for his constant smile, his jokes and the laughs we shared. Viewing will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 between 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano Celebrant.
