Date of Passing: Mar 09, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFILOMENA CRIVICI (nee DAMIANI) October 15, 1919 - March 9, 2011 Peacefully in her sleep, Filomena (Ena) passed away at Rock Lake Hospital in Crystal City, MB. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children Lanfranco (Sylvia), Rita (David), four grandchildren - Michael (Catherine), Angela (Alan), Damian and Camille, and two great-grandchildren - Benjamin and Matteo. She is also survived by her sisters Franca in Adelaide, Australia and Stephania in Rijeka, Croatia. Filomena was born in the tiny village of Lubenice on the island of Cres, Croatia. She would experience a remarkable journey that saw her immigrate to Canada and raise a family in Manitoba. She left her childhood home at a young age to work in Italy, but would come back to Lubenice to marry Peter, who she lovingly called her vecchio . Soon after the Second World War, they became one of the many families that immigrated to Canada for a new life. In May of 1950, they called St. Eustache, MB, their first Canadian home. Eventually, they moved to Winnipeg and in 1958, Peter and Filomena purchased Riverside Grocery on Assiniboine Avenue. They sold Riverside Grocery in 1962 to purchase Fort Whyte Food Mart on McGillivray Blvd. and operated it until their retirement in 1986. Filomena's retirement was filled with gardening and spending time with her family. In 2005, after Peter's passing, she moved to Manitou, MB to be closer to family. She especially enjoyed playing cards with the many friends she made at the Manitou Kinsmen Haven. It gave her great pleasure to talk about her grandchildren and show pictures of them. The family would like to thank the staff at Rock Lake Hospital for the care and compassion that they showed Filomena. Cremation has taken place and was followed by a private interment. Mom, Grandma, Nonna, Bisnonna and BiBi - we love you and miss you.
