Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRICHARD PHILIPPON Richard Philippon passed quietly into the night in the early hours of Sunday, April 17, 2011. Born June 5, 1928, Richard was predeceased by his loving wife Viola late last year and leaves five children: Ruth (Ed) Wiebe of Nakusp, BC; Stanley (Debra) Philippon; Orvile (Maretta) Philippon of Hilbre, MB; Sandy (Alan) Smith of Hilbre, MB; Elaine (Reg) Cayer; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He will be sadly missed and remembered with love. As a young man, Richard built the first truck mounted ferris wheel in North America and travelled with Casey Shows midway. It was during this period that he met Viola in Regina and they were married in Richard's home town of St. Vital, Winnipeg in 1952. Together, they built a thriving small business, St. Vital Welding Machine, which they operated until 2009. Richard also had a passion for flying and in 1965 he bought his first of many airplanes. It was a sad day for him when he could no longer soar among the clouds. Richard ended his days in the Beacon Hill Lodge Nursing Home where the kind attention of the nurses and attendants earned his friendship and the heartfelt appreciation of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be graciously received by Richard's charity of choice, the Muscular Dystrophy Canada, 204-825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5, (204) 233-0022.
