ARTHUR LAWRENCE GRUNSTEN January 20, 1924 - April 19, 2011 Husband, father, father-in-law, grampa passed away after a brief illness. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughter Kristi; son-in-law Bob, and his favourite little pooch , granddaughter Mekiah. Dad was in the navy during the Second World War and in these later years Veterans Affairs Canada took very good care of his needs. Dad also enjoyed working for the C.N.R. for 40 years beginning in the sheds and later working in the offices at Main and Broadway. When Mom died in 2007 after 63 years of marriage, Dad made it through that tough time by spending almost everyday with us. He liked to be busy and go out to do errands with Kristi, visit with and watch Bob work on one of his building projects, watch Mekiah play music and sports, play cards and board games after weekend meals, and sit in our screened-in porch listening to the birds for hours. Dad also had a passion for travelling the world that started with Mom. In recent years, trains and RVs were his summer toys to explore Canada including Newfoundland, Northwest Territory, Yukon, and Alaska. Winters weren't too long for Dad as he took us to paradise spots for Christmas and Spring Break. A week before he got sick he was swimming daily in the ocean in Jamaica! Dad was a quiet, funny, happy, friendly, loyal, caring, and selfless guy who was fun to spend time with. We would like to thank Dr. C. Isaac who cared for Dad for so many years as his general practitioner, the Movement Disorder Clinic who helped Dad cope with Parkinson's Disease, and Health Sciences Centre CancerCare who for years, kept prostrate cancer at bay. Appreciation is also extended to Dr. Griffin, Dr. Al Hammad, Dr. Goch, and other wonderful staff at Victoria General Hospital (ER and ward 4S) who took excellent care of Dad for ten days. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Voyage Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1531 Pembina Hwy. (284-3500). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's memory to Victoria Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy. (477-3513); specifically the Emergency Department (ER development).
