DONALD C. FOULKES May 6, 1932 - April 23, 2011 Suddenly at home, Don Foulkes, aged 78, slightly short of his 79th birthday. Don was born, grew up, and attended school in St. Vital. He spent most of his career in the insurance industry, retiring from Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation, General Insurance Division as a Business Analyst. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to build the computerized rating system used by the company for several years. He had numerous interests and hobbies throughout his life: Don bowled, played bridge, read avidly and often, and rarely missed a football game on TV. In his younger years he loved to hike and camp, and go to the cottage at Grand Marais with his wife Iris and their friends. One of his passions was his sports cars, and he and Mom belonged to the Winnipeg Sports Car Club for many years and made many life-long friends there. Later on, he was one of the founding members of the Triumph Drivers' Club of Manitoba; good-naturedly taking much ribbing about his endlessly almost ready Spitfire. Don was a longtime member of Ashlar Lodge, AF AM, and served as Junior Warden and Secretary. He remained a Freemason throughout his life, and through the amalgamation of Ashlar Lodge into Windsor Lodge and then with Ionic Beaver Lodge. The philosophy of the Masons was very meaningful to him, and he strived to remain faithful to their spirit. Wherever Don found himself he loved to meet people and turn them into friends. He loved to swap funny stories, chat, and most of all laugh and have a good time. His many close friends and acquaintances will miss his good humour, sharp wit, loyalty, honour and accumulated wisdom. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Iris, his brother Patrick Foulkes and brother-in-law George Riddle. He is survived by daughter Karen Foulkes; grandsons, Garth Foulkes and Bryce Kennedy; son-in-law Theo Kennedy; numerous nieces and nephews and their children; and several cousins. He will be sadly missed by them all. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, on Tuesday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception for friends and family. Celebrant Lee Barringer. If family and friends wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at a later date. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
