ALMA VILLACORTA NEPOMUCENO 1956 - 2011 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Alma on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the age of 54 years at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by family. Left to cherish her memories are her husband (Roman), children (Raphael, Roman Gabriel and Ian), mother (Beatriz), siblings (Vilma, Rafael, Wilma, Marcela, Maria Rita, Salvador Jr, Beatrice and Cleto) and other family and friends. She was predeceased by her father (Salvador) and brothers (Jose and Francisco). Alma was born on November 3, 1956 in Dagupan City, Philippines where she spent a memorable childhood. She completed Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering and Sanitary Engineering at the Mapua Institute of Technology. She worked at the National Water Resources Board, forming cherished bonds of friendship for life. Through work and a mutual friend, she met her husband, Roman. They married in 1983, embarking on endearing adventures together for 28 years. They had three sons: Jean Raphael, Roman Gabriel, and Ian Michael, named after her archangels. Her name, Alma translates in Spanish as soul, and nourishing or fostering in Latin - qualities she embodied. She was a caring mother who supported her boys in their pursuits and guided them to become the same compassionate person that she was. And to her husband and best friend, her love and affection provided the strength in his endeavours. Her career took her to Belgium, Thailand and Colorado for further studies, forming lasting friendships along the way. She liked travelling but was easily homesick, missing her young family back home. Moving to Canada in 1997 with her family was to be the biggest adventure of her life, where she found more time to be with her family and to travel around Canada and the US together with her family. The family would especially like to thank all the medical and nursing staff at the Buhler Cancer Centre and the Victoria Hospital for their care and kindness during Alma's final days. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church (Stafford and Corydon) and followed by reception. Interment will take place afterwards at the Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. If friends so desire, donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Alma's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
