EDIE (EDITH) PLATFORD 1922 - 2011 Despite a feisty inner strength, on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 Edie surrendered; her soul departing us to be with her beloved Cecil. With family constantly at her side, Dr. Beveridge not far away, and the many dedicated oncology, palliative care and nurses of 3E, Edie held on for as long as she possibly could. She leaves behind her children - Roberta (Perry), Sue (Don), and Rob (Diane); special nephew and niece - Ron and Ida Eastwood whom she considered a son and daughter; grandchildren - Michael, Aaron, Greg, Jill, Danielle, David, and Dylan, and two brothers - Bob and Stan Heelis. Proud to call home, mom lived in Clearwater Bay for 64 years in the same house where they raised three children and welcomed the many cottagers who visited often on a weekly or even daily basis. Known for her keenness and accurateness of facts, figures, and names, she was Clearwater's grounded historian. Her tenacity, fierce determination, and kind-heartedness were hallmarks that characterized mom to both the young and elderly. Her contagious positive attitude and genuine smile and love for life to its' fullest, she will always be remembered for her zest for life. She was definitely rich in friends near and far away. The family is blessed with the many people who so warmly touched mom's heart and were part of her life memories at home, in Winnipeg, and in Victoria, BC. For those who walk early mornings, afternoons, and evenings down the old' highway, know that mom is passing by smiling or walking along beside you reminiscing memories past, sharing stories, or silently listening. At mom's request, there will be no service. A celebration of mom's life will be held during the summer months in Clearwater Bay at the family home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake of the Woods Foundation / Forms of Hope Fund or charity of choice. Remember her with a smile today, She was not one for tears, Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years.
