RAYMOND (RAY) STANDIL It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, son, brother, uncle, and stepfather on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital. Ray was predeceased by his father, Joe Standil and sister-in-law Francis Standil. He is sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife, Lucy Stoppler, mother Sylvia (Standil) Boroditsky, brother Earl (Carolyn Rubin), stepchildren Cathy (Jamie) and Gord, his nieces Carrie and Libby, great-nephew Jarod as well as a large extended family and many close friends. Ray was a camper at B'Nai Brith Camp at Lake of the Woods, and later became a counsellor. Ray was a free spirit who travelled the world in his youth and then lived in many cities including Ottawa, Halifax, and Moncton. He touched many lives with his caring, kind and humourous spirit. Prior to his illness Ray was a dedicated teacher in the Seven Oaks School Division. He tried to pass on his love for learning to his students. Friendships were extremely important to Ray and this was reflected by the many people who stood by his side during his long battle with cancer. Ray was an extremely positive person and an inspiration to everyone close to him. We wish to thank Dr. Ralph Wong and his staff, especially Cathy, who treated Ray with dignity and respect and were always happy to put up with his incredible sense of humour. Also thank you to the staff of 5E at St. Boniface Hospital for their respectful and compassionate care in his final days. A funeral service was held at Temple Shalom on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 officiated by Len Udow. Donations can be made in Ray's memory to the Ray Standil B'Nai Brith Camp Fund, c/o The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400-123 Doncaster Street, R3N 2B2, 204-477-7520 or CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, 204-787-4143.
