Jose will be missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ludovina Do Serro; also left to cherish his great memory are his daughters; Leonilde (Florival Sousa), Ludovina (Victor Barreto); grandchildren: Claudio Sousa (Robyn Tully), Antonio Barreto and Stephanie Sousa; sister-in-law Leticia (Victor Santos) and nieces Custodia (Marcel Barras), Natalina do Serro (Peterson), Nidia (Sergio Gago), Fatima (Isidro Moreno) as well as second nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother Inacio Do Serro. Jose was born and raised in Faro/Algarve (Portugal), realizing a great opportunity for his young family he immigrated to Canada July 1960. Jose then became a strong anchor in sponsoring not only his immediate family but many members of his extended family. He instilled his strong work ethic and zest for life in all who were close to him. No one worked harder to support his family. His passion and entrepreneurial spirit provided him with rewarding opportunities. When he immigrated to Canada he settled in Winnipeg and worked in hydro/electric construction projects and as a welder for C.P. Rail before retiring. Jose was a free spirit who had a passion for music (Fado), loved to sing/dance and also enjoyed hunting. He valued his family above all and enjoyed many happy get-togethers where his love for toasting (with great wine) to his family and friends and his appetite for Portuguese food always showed. The family would like to thank the loving / caring staff at the Misericordia Cornish and Misericordia Place for all their excellent care and devotion till his last day. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street.
