MARGARET IRENE LYON (nee DUNCAN) February 25, 1908 - August 30, 2011 Margaret Lyon passed away August 30, 2011. She is survived by her Grandsons, Aaron (Tiffany) and Jamie (Jamie) Lyon, her daughter-in-law Shirley, niece Lanette Bowman, sister-in-law Ethel Duncan, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, one infant sister, four brothers, her husband Joe and her son Jim Lyon. Margaret lived her whole life in Winnipeg, but did enjoy many trips, traveling with lifelong friends. Margaret worked for the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg for over 41 years, retiring in 1976 only to return in 1985, and continued until 1998 when she decided to fully retire at the age of 90. Margaret was very active as Choir Master at St. Andrews Elgin United Church and on it's closure attended Knox United. The friendships made at St. Andrews were life long and strong. In her 80s and 90s, she would get on the bus to visit shut ins, in nursing homes and hospitals, which was very important to her. She enjoyed very good health, until the last few years, and felt truly blessed that she was capable of visiting those less fortunate. Margaret was also a life member of the Soroptimist Club. Margaret loved doing crosswords and playing cards. She treasured weekends spent at Winnipeg Beach with family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be held on September 3, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.at Brookside Cemetery.
