ROSY FRANCES SEMCHUK (SUCHOPLAS) October 19, 1948 - October 31, 2011 Rose passed peacefully in the early morning at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Rosy was born at home on the farm October 19, 1948 in Arron, Saskatchewan and was the eldest daughter of Michael and Olga Suchoplas. Growing up in Grandview, Manitoba with her siblings Elmer, Joyce and late brother Orest. Mom shared many fond memories of visiting her grandparent's farm and spending time with her many cousins and extended family. Her childhood dream was to become a Missionary and she truly was at heart; she always helped those around her. Rose grew up and was married to Victor Semchuk on July 12, 1966 in Grandview, Manitoba and together they raised their three children, Rhonda, Elaine, and Billy, in The Pas, Manitoba where they enjoyed all that the north had to offer. Mom loved fishing, camping, and our famous Sunday drives where we would enjoy an ice cream or have a hot dog roast, even in the winter. One such trip allowed Mom to join the elite group of Master Anglers when she caught a trophy lake trout while ice fishing. Mom's pride and joy was her family. This was evident especially when she did things like volunteer as a leader of the Brownie troop for her girls, and in helping out with school projects, especially utilizing her artistic skill of drawing. For many years Mom ran a day care, which allowed her to help other families, while being home for her own. Mom was most proud when she became a Baba. She was always available whenever anyone needed advice or a helping hand. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her joy and allowed her to have a special relationship with each of them. After moving to Winnipeg Rose volunteered at the West Broadway Community Centre, helping young mothers learn to prepare meals and take care of their families. She would later become a member of her Resident Tenants Association and was pivotal in starting a coffee club that encouraged socializing among residents. Mom had a strong sense of community and a passion for justice. She was always open to sharing her thoughts and opinions on how politicians could solve current issues. Mom was loved and will be deeply missed by many. Rose is survived by her children: Rhonda (Gil), grandchildren Stacy and Tamara of Carseland, AB; Elaine, grandchildren Brody (Crista) and Ryan of Winnipeg, MB; William, grandchildren Alix, Ethan and Noah; daughter-in-law Shelley of Carseland, AB; siblings Elmer (Audrey), nephews Eric, Leon, Evan of Campbell River, BC, Joyce, niece Sheila, nephew Ron (Monique) of Dauphin, MB; mother-in-law Vicky of Saskatoon, SK; sister-in-law Rose; brothers-in-law, Marv, Tom, and Len; and many others. Rose was predeceased by her husband Victor, parents Olga and Michael, and brother Orest. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Dauphin First United Church with the Reverend Larry McPhail officiating. Interment will take place in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Children's Hospital. Thank you to all the wonderful care providers that helped to make Mom's life more comfortable. A special thank you to Angelita, who always brightened Mom's day, and the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Live. Love. Laugh.
