Born: Apr 20, 1930
Date of Passing: Nov 24, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE DYBAYLO It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Baba , and friend, on November 24, 2011, at the age of 81, at the Grace Hospital. Sophie will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Vera, Nadia (Dan Lester), Luba, and her grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah. She was predeceased by her parents Stephan and Maria Nazarkewych, her husband Yaroslaw, and her infant daughter Marie. Sophie was born in Poland on April 20, 1930. She grew up in the town of Przemysl and as a young girl, witnessed many human injustices during the Second World War. After the war, she worked as a hairdresser along with her mother and enjoyed this life very much. However, she longed to have a family. She immigrated to Canada in 1960, married, and started her family. She overcame many obstacles, having to learn a new language, and a new culture. Her confidence increased when she became employed, learning the language, and developed new friendships. She was so happy to be reunited with her mother and family when she travelled to Poland and Ukraine in 1973, the year before her mother passed away. Sophie was an extremely caring, nurturing and supportive person, as she was willing to do anything to help her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers (as well as her children's gardens), sewing, knitting, preparing the best holubchi and perogies, as well as keeping informed on world events by spending many hours watching CNN. She always knew what was happening in the world. She especially enjoyed spending precious time with her family, willing to babysit anytime, travelling to Disney World, going on a Caribbean and an Alaskan cruise, and many road trips through Canada and the U.S. She most recently enjoyed moving to her very cozy apartment after maintaining her home for so many years in the Garden City area. Unfortunately, three months ago, she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. From Sophie and her family, we would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital who cared for her with respect and gentleness. She was truly a very special person and was grateful for your caring ways. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 30 at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, at 965 Boyd Ave. with a luncheon to follow immediately. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
