In memory of Randy. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss my buddy. Randy was a great guy who was always full of smiles and good laughs, even when things were tough. When I first met Randy many years ago we became instant friends. We had worked together on and off over the years, but it was after Randy had retired from the WPS where we reconnected again and picked up like old times. We’d meet for coffee almost every day and talk about family, work and what our dreams were. I recall that every time I spoke with Randy he’d tell me about what his kids, Melissa, Kim and Mark were up to and how incredibly proud he was of them. He truly loved his kids, and the entire Schmeichel family. He also loved when I’d take him to Costco, because he never had a card of his own. Somehow I’d still end up buying him a lunch there, lol. One of Randy’s big dreams was to purchase a nice place in Florida to spend the winter. He had done his homework and was working to convince me to buy a place too. It sounded like a great plan, and no doubt we would have had a lot of fun and caused some trouble there. Unfortunately, tragedy struck and Randy was taken away much too soon. I was in total shock and did the best to hide my grief - believing I had to be strong. I struggled for a long time after losing my best friend. He was like a brother. He was a great man, a wonderful friend, and he will never be forgotten. Thoughts go out to Melissa, Kim, Mark and the Schmeichel family and wishing you peace and comfort as you remember Randy. - Posted by: Shawn Matthews (Friend) on: Jan 20, 2022

I first met Randy at the airport, him as WPS and Me a Commissionaire, he was alway very helpful and kind and was a bit of a jokester, but the thing I will remember about Randy was his dedication to life and his family, we will miss him alot. - Posted by: Arlene MacDonald (Friend) on: Jan 11, 2012

I knew Randy from the old airport & coffee breaks. He was a soul on a wonderful journey & the shocking of his passing so young means he has fulfilled that journey exceedingly well. My condolences to his family. He was a genuine person in every sense of the word. My deepest condolences to the Schmeichel family. "What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for other's remains immortal" -Robert Pine-. If this be true then Randy will remain immortal to all those who knew him. I met Randy in 2007 and am thankful for the time he was in my life. Randy was the type of person who was always giving to others and cared so much for his family and close friends. Randy was never to busy to drop what he was doing to help someone else. The guy you could count on not to miss coffee. The guy you could count on to help with anything. The guy whose door you showed up to and he would say come in and stay as long as you need to. Your kindness, generosity, laughter, smiles, sense of humour, and hugs will be missed. I am a better person, stronger person, and happier person for all the joy you brought to my life. My best friend, confidant, and companion. I will miss "our little life". You will be missed, cherished and loved by all who knew you, myself included. Till we meet again. Randy, you were a great cousin and it was always great to see your smiling face. I remember playing floor hockey with you in the 1980's and loved your enthusiasm towards the game, even when we lost. Your love of sports connected us and I was looking forward to going to a Jets game with you. We will miss you terribly and we will always remember you in our hearts. Love and prayers go out to the family. Darren Siemens I am so grieved to hear of the passing of one of my favorite cousins. He knew how to light up a room with his smile and positive enthusiasm for life and one always went away afterwards feeling better after talking to him. He had that effect on people. He loved his work and talked to my son often about what was required in becoming a police officer. He had a nice way of taking care of and honoring his mother, Doris. He was understanding of many of life's situations and would be there to lend a compassionate ear when needed. He was like the big brother I never had. Warm hugs and condolences go to his parents, his brothers and his three beautiful children Melissa, Kimberly and Mark as it is difficult to fully comprehend what they must be going through. But Jesus is our Hope, and one day we will see our beloved 'Randy' again. Randy's tenderness toward God and spiritual things was evident. The world was a better place while he was here. Prayers and blessings to the family. Charleyn Dawn - Posted by: Darren and Charleyn Siemens (cousin (s)) on: Jan 06, 2012

Am thankful I had the chance to visit Randy in Porcupine Plains, the memories of driving in that convertable, horseback riding and the huge harvest moon, are priceless. We went to junior high, and the same church. Spent alot of time with our families growing up. Playing football on Sunday afternoon, plus whatever trouble we could get into. There are so many memories, but most of all what a special friend you were, you were like another brother to me. You will be missed by many, sleep well my friend, till we meet again, love ya Corrie - Posted by: Corrie Zielke Preece (Life Time Friend) on: Jan 06, 2012

MY memories of Randy take me back to our teen years when we first met at Calvary Temple, our home church. Friday nights for CA's, weekends playing football at various parks around Winnipeg with the gang and the different parties. (Who could forget those parties?) Getting on our bikes and taking the long trip from N. Kildonan to Assiniboine Park. Randy never did like the climb over the Disraeli Bridge. Although we have lost touch over these many years I will always be grateful for the investment Randy made in those early, tender years of my life. Randy I know that you are more alive today than you have ever been. "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see" and to see our loved ones who have gone on before. WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!!! Meet you at the throne. Tim Sturby - Posted by: Tim Sturby (Teenage friend) on: Jan 06, 2012

Randy first came to the WRHA some 7-8 yrs ago and worked with our Community Mental Health Program on a part-time basis. In 2006-07 Randy applied to work as a Mobile Patrol Officer on my team. At first he was a casual worker, as he was still employed for the U of M Campus Police. In 2008, I created a new position for which Randy applied. Randy became the new Coordinator for Mobile Patrol (MPO) and Investigations at the WRHA. Randy was very happy in is his new job and always gave 100%. Randy was hard working, diligent, sympathetic and helpful. Randy always spoke of his kids with pride as a good father would. He will be sorely missed by his MPO team and healthcare family. Randy.. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Jacques Gagne (Colleague and Manager) on: Jan 06, 2012

I recently met Randy through his daughter "Kim" whom I work with at the WPS Cadet Unit. He was such an up beat individual who took a great deal of pride in the fact that his daughter was following in his foot steps by applying with the Winnipeg Police Service once Kim gained some experience as a Cadet. I am very happy I met him and mourn his loss with his family and friends. - Posted by: Barry Bilou (Friend) on: Jan 05, 2012

I knew Randy from the early 90's. When I went to work at the airport, there he was. His kids are indeed his pride of joy. Randy loved my home cooking and my baking and he seemed to know when I bought them to work as he made sure that he got his share of my baking before anyone else.
