FRANK DANIEL SCHERER October 2, 1929 - January 18, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank following a lengthy illness with cancer. Frank leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife of 60 years, Doreen. His daughters, Sandra and husband Richard (Unruh), and Maureen and husband Tom (Milroy); grandsons, Jesse (Elisha), Kyle (Kim), Kellen (Amy) and Ian (Lindsay); sister Kaye Jestadt of Boise, Idaho; brother Nick (Marilyn) of Kelowna, BC and sister-in-law Isobel McDonald, numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was born and raised in the North End of Winnipeg and was very proud of that heritage. He made many lifelong friends, procured his first job of delivering newspapers and established links to many of the North End hot spots. Frank started his career as an accountant at Ray o Vac, and Stovels where he met Doreen and starting his path in the printing business including the Brandon Sun, Coronet Printers, Pakfold Business Forms and finally his pride and joy - The Wallingford Group. Dad was president and CEO of Wallingford Press, Reid and Eibner and Columbia printers where he enjoyed the adventures of a business owner and salesman until he sold the business and retired in 2001. Throughout his career, Frank won numerous awards within the printing industry and was a longtime member and stood as President of the Craftsman Club of Winnipeg. In his younger years, Frank enjoyed 10 pin bowling and was City Champion two years in a row. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of Elmhurst Golf and Country Club for 49 years. Here Frank and Doreen enjoyed their summer golf, many laughs and dinners with good friends throughout the years. Frank had a great sense of humour and kept that up right until the end. Chalk one-up for you Dad. . The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital but especially the staff of the Grace Hospice for treating Frank with great care and compassion like a member of their own family. A celebration of Frank's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba (Prostate), 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9. Dear Doreen and family, I am saddened to hear of Franks passing. I have such good memories of you and him in my years as manager at Elmhurst. He was always ready to provide me with his knowledgeable advice and great service on all our printing needs. It was a pleasure to know him and have both of you and your family grace our tables at Elmhurst. My deepest sympathy. Ron Franks - Posted by: Ronald Franks (friend) on: Jan 29, 2012

Uncle Frank, When we look back we remember so many funny and happy moments. You followed us in our constant moves across the country-and in our visits to you you forgave us for bringing a variety of naughty dogs and forgetting our wallets. Our visits were always fun-somewhat raucous, NEVER proper Canadian! We loved it when you treated us to those posh dinners together, with your savoir faire charming all those aound you. We are grateful for the cheery coffee wake-up calls in the mornings in Palm Desert. What a good time we had to crash your 80th birthday party-so many good memories: the bus trip around the city visiting childhood homes and neighborhoods and zany, evening family get-togethers. Mom remembers you in your zoot suit many, many years ago, but then you were always top of the list of best dressed! When we traveled by car, you had to (first thing in the morning) have your peanut butter fix. We will always remember you as our handsome, silver-fox Uncle Frank-this wonderful brother and uncle in our lives. My memories of Frank go back virtually to my earliest memories living on Rossmere Cresent. Fifty plus years. I always remember Frank as fun loving, friendly and great for joking around. Always a kind word and that larger than life smile. I really did grow up with your family in many ways as a neighbor and friend. All very fond memories for me. Sincerely, Blake Piper P.S. I met Frank almost 40 years ago through his sales where I worked. Frank always conducted himself in the true business fashion of honesty, integrity and he was always a true gentleman. Frank and Doreen attended my wedding in 2005 and it was an honor to have them there. Even after his retirement, he continued to send emails full of jokes and comments. He will truly be missed and I will think of him often. Doreen, I extend to you my deepest and sincerest sympathy to you and your family. Truly a character that would fit in with the television show "Laugh in". Unforgetable person, who leaves behind many fond memories. - Posted by: Lyle Jones (Family friend) on: Jan 23, 2012

My name is Rex Mayall and I first had the pleasure of meeting Frank & Dorren when I traveled over to Toronto for my daughters wedding to Franks grandson Jesse Unruh in 2007. My first impression of Frank was his dry sense of humour and witty way with words. In 2010 on a return visit to Canada I was invited to stay with Frank and Dorren at their apartment in Winnipeg and in the short time I was there Frank took under his wing and showed me all around Winnipeg, pointing out to me with pride the places he used to work and where he was brought up. I will never forget the kindness and friendship that he and Dorren heap on me while I was staying with them. It was with great saddness that I learnt of his passing and my deepest sympathy goes to Dorren, Sandra & Richard, M - Posted by: Rex Mayall (Jesse Unruh & Elisha Mayall father & father in law in New Zealand.) on: Jan 22, 2012

Please pass my deepest sympathy to the family. My name is Jim Livingston and I had the pleasure of working for Frank for many years. He sold the pre-press portion of his company to 3 of his employees, including myself and became our first customer. Thanks, in part to Frank, we ran a successful business for 23 years until my retirement in 1964. He was always one of my favourites and I guess what I remember most is his sense of honour and dignity and his dedication to Wallingford and to his employees. I will miss him, as will anyone who knew him. I have relocated to BC and regret not being able to attend Frank's funeral.
