LAWRENCE NEZON On January 15, 2012, Lawrence Nezon passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre in Winnipeg. He is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 63 years, and his children Jeff (Janet), Errol (Rhonda), and Elaine (Allan). He also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren, Adena (Jim), Kera (Sean), Dana, Rebecca, Josh and Sarah; and great-grandchildren, Elyse, Jillian, Jonah and Mia. Lawrence was a self made man. From humble beginnings working on the railroad he went on to become a successful entrepreneur, co-founding the Main Fish Company. When the fish business closed he made the transition to the real estate industry, enjoying many profitable years working with Lakeview Developments. Satisfied with his success, Lawrence chose to formally retire at age 52. He enjoyed spending winters playing golf and tennis in Florida, and he was especially happy when his children and grandchildren would join him and Shirley there for memorable family vacations. He and Shirley travelled the world extensively over the years, and he continued to quietly pursue real estate development opportunities from his home office until quite recently. Lawrence's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his friends and his community. He was fiercely proud of the accomplishments of his offspring. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue higher education and he was delighted that he could count so many professionals in his family. Lawrence contributed greatly to his community as a founder and past-president of the B'Nai Abraham Congregation. He believed deeply in philanthropy and was a quiet but major contributor to a number of local and international charities. He was a staunch supporter of Israel and was proud to have visited there several times during his life. The family wishes to thank the entire team at the Simkin Centre for the outstanding care and support they provided during these final difficult weeks. A funeral service was held at Congregation Etz Chayim on January 16, with interment at the B'Nai Abraham Cemetary. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Lawrence is deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through his actions and through the many lives he touched.
