RONALD HENDERSON COLLETT With his family by his side, Ron passed away at his home on March 18, 2012, at the age of 77 years. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marlene, his daughters Leigh (Norm), Kelly (Eric), his grandchildren Jessica and Jack, and numerous other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his father Peter and his mother Jeanie. Ron was born on April 20, 1934 in Penticton, BC. He grew up in Winnipeg, and returned after completing his education in Iowa. From 1958 to 1996, he was a chiropractor in private practice. He was one of the founders of the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation and one of the first chiropractic radiologists in Canada. From 1983 until his retirement in December 2011 he worked as a part time consultant with the Workers Compensation Board. He was very active in the chiropractic profession throughout his career, serving on the Manitoba Chiropractors Association Board, lecturing extensively and mentoring others. He was also very active, spending his younger years as a competitive paddler and curler, later enjoying running, boating, scuba diving, spear fishing, and golf. He loved spending time at Falcon Lake and gardening in his yard. At the age of 65, he earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Throughout his life, he was an avid reader and in later years, a great friend to his two dogs Elliot and Marcel. More recently he became very active in studying French and discovering extended family, delighting in connections with many previously unknown relatives in North America and France. He cherished spending time with friends and family and particularly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was a kind and caring man who made a positive and lasting impact on anyone who came into his life. • Dear Kelly, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. I think about you when I go to the chiropractor because you were so knowledgeable about chiropractic care when we lived out west and travelled to Australia. You learned a lot from your Dad. My thoughts are with you during this sad time. - Posted by: Natalie Rodway (Friend of Kelly) on: Apr 01, 2012

  • We have known Ron & Marlene for over 40 years. Time spent with our families at Falcon Lake were memorable. Times spent establishing the College of Chiropractic Radiologists were ground breaking. Ron was one of those true friends, who whenever we connected, it seemed we were able to start up where we had left off the previous time. Ron was a respected and true friend. We will miss raising a glass together. Our condolences to you all. John and Joyce and family - Posted by: John and Joyce MacRae (Friend and Fellow Chiropractor) on: Mar 29, 2012

  • Having worked with Dr. Collett for the past 13 years, I came to appreciate his sense of humor, his caring attitude and advice to those he dealt with, both staff and patients, he will truly be missed. - Posted by: Gail Walker (Co-worker) on: Mar 26, 2012

  • I've had the great honor and pleasure of having Ron as my father-in-law for the last dozen years. While Ron and Marlene have been living in Winnipeg, his daughter Leigh, me and our kids have been in Los Angeles and his other daughter Kelly and her husband Eric have been in Massachusetts. Those are pretty big distances but over this time, I've been amazed at how those distances seemed to shrink and this family has grown to be so warm, close and such a big part of my life. Ron had everything to do with making that happen and I can't think of many things more important than that. Whenever Ron was in the room, the room was happier and filled with life. He always brought a smile to those around him with his great sense of humor, sharp wit and kind heart. I'm so thankful for the wonderful gift of love and family that he gave to all of us. - Posted by: Norm Ellison (son-in-law) on: Mar 25, 2012

  • Dr. Collette has been a wonderful help to me throughout my professional career and his sage advice was always appreciated. My condolences go out to his family from myself and everyone here at Spectrum health. And as Ron would say to me "Crash On" - Posted by: Gordon Partridge (colleague) on: Mar 25, 2012

  • The world has lost a wonderful, wonderful person and all who knew him were lucky for the honour. Marlene, Leigh, Kelly, Norm, Eric, Jessica and Jack - our hearts and thougths are with you, but there is not much that can be said to help during a time of loss. I will always remember Ron's genuine warmth and everytime I have a glass of Madeira I will think of him - a wonderful Christmas Eve tradition that Ron started with us. Rest Peacefully Ron. - Posted by: Kelly, Vida, Lauren and Logan Falk (Friends) on: Mar 24, 2012

  • “He was a kind and caring man who made a positive and lasting impact on anyone who came into his life.” As one who came into his life, allow me to avow just how incredibly true that is. While he will be deeply and truly missed, he will be remembered with a stronger smile and warmth in one's heart and a thank you to the Lord for having been blessed with knowing him. Knowing him, speaking with him, laughing with him, learning from him, enjoying times with him. With the family he helped create amongst us, we live in a better place where his warmth will continue to be shared. Rest well, Ron, you will always be loved and appreciated. - Posted by: Joel Robinson (Friend) on: Mar 24, 2012

God bless all of you. - Posted by: Larry & Wendy Rutherford (patients) on: Mar 24, 2012

  • This wonderful man I knew as Dr. Collett since I started working with him in 1988. He always had time to talk and was so kind and compassionate. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a lovely smile. I was so sad to hear Dr. Collett was sick and shocked to hear he had passed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this wonderful man.
