WAUGH BSC, MD 1923 - 2012 Surrounded by family, Dr. Fred Waugh died on March 15, 2012 at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia at 88 years. He was the youngest son of Dr. and Mrs. R. J. Waugh of Carberry, MB, and husband of Dorothy J. Waugh (Frisken) his devoted and loving wife, who has been at his side for 59 years. He will always be remembered by his five children, Jane (John), Robin, Keith (Kristin), Clive, and Liam Waugh, as the finest of fathers. He was the best of granddads to Jilian, Jake, Samuel, and Hunter; Anne and Colin; Brendan, Andrew, and Nicole. In addition, their great-granddad will be missed by Ava and Hazel. He was predeceased by his brothers Perry, Jack, and George. His sister, Mrs. Frances Fasken (nee Waugh), cherishes her brother and continues to live in Barrie, ON. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews, former colleagues, neighbours, and friends. Fred grew up in Carberry MB and, after several years of military service during the Second World War, he received his MD at the University of Manitoba in 1953. In the middle of the 1950s, he began his 40 year association with the Winnipeg Clinic. Throughout his career he showed passionate dedication to the practice of medicine. As part of his work in occupational medicine, he travelled extensively to interesting places all over the world, including parts of Canada's north. He retired from his practice in 1994; he and Dorothy moved to Salt Spring Island in that same year. He was a well known volunteer in many roles within several organizations, both in Winnipeg and within the Salt Spring community. His service was very generous to the parishes of St. George's Anglican Church, Crescentwood, in Winnipeg, and to the Anglican Parish of Salt Spring Island. Fred also had lifelong interests in gardening, painting, art appreciation, antique collecting, and music of all kinds. He enjoyed camping and cottage life, particularly at Austin Lake, ON. Cremation has taken place. The funeral was held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Church on Salt Spring Island, BC. The family wishes to thank Dr. Reznick and the staff of Lady Minto Hospital for the quality of their care, and their sensitivity and kindness.
