TONY SALO August 3, 1952 - March 26, 2012 Juha Anthony (Tony) Salo passed away suddenly and too soon while on vacation on March 26, 2012, leaving his family and many friends to miss his warmth and great sense of humour. He will be forever missed by his wife Linda, daughter Liane, son Leif, mother Arja, brothers Ilkka (Audrey) and Kim (Susan), sister Marita, niece Aisia, and nephews Kai, Michael and Matthew. He will also be remembered by mother-in-law Dorothy, father-in-law Joseph, brothers-in-law Brian (Cathy) and Rick (Luanne), sister-in-law Diane (Randy) and nephews Tyler and Adam. He was predeceased by his father Vic. Tony was born in Edmonton on August 3, 1952, grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Vancouver in 1976. He attracted many friends with his friendly, outgoing personality and talkative nature. He could regularly be found on the golf course, experimenting in the kitchen or listening to his extensive music collection. Tony was usually the first person on the dance floor and the life of any party. He enjoyed camping with his family and fishing at the Salo cottage at Pointe du Bois. He worked at Sears for over 30 years and often entertained his co-workers and customers with his ready wit and one-liners. He was caring and generous with his time, helping anyone in need, and was devoted to his family. Tony struggled with melanoma for two years and always maintained a positive attitude in the face of many health challenges. A celebration of Tony's life will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Seymour Golf and Country Club, 3723 Mt. Seymour Parkway, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation for the benefit of the Dr. Paul Klimo Chemotherapy Clinic by accessing the tribute page for Tony at: https://www.lghfoundation.com/tribute/

  • Tony (Juha) was a wonderful friend in high school. He came to my gr 12 grad and we all ended up at Point du Bois where he loved to go. The Kelvin reunion was this weekend and he was missed by many. I offer my condolences to all his family. - Posted by: signe badger (old high school friend) on: May 28, 2012

  • We will miss Tony's warm personality and his ready smile and quick wit. We have known Tony for over 15 years through baseball and soccer with the boys, Saturday night barbeques (it was our turn!) and the card games we were just starting to play. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again. We will look out for Lyn for you. xoxo - Posted by: Ann & Dwight Maher (Friends) on: Apr 16, 2012

  • To say that Tony was the life of the party, goes without saying, for anyone who truly knew him. He was a part of my teenage life - my best friend and roommate at times. I was there for his first date with Lynn - and he promptly spilled a drink on her. Tony was there for me when I got back together with my husband, Brian. Years ago, we fished a pre-dawn morning at his cottage.. I yawned and he said I was doing the moose-mating-call. I will miss him. I still hear him saying... "Chris..." Miss you Tone..xoxo - Posted by: Christina Windatt (Salomonsen) (pal from a hundred years ago..) on: Apr 02, 2012

  • Arja, this is not something any mother expects, for her child to go before a parent. I am so sorry for your loss and know that the comfort of family and friends will be important. Let others care for you now. - Posted by: Tuula Heinonen (friend) on: Apr 02, 2012

  • Here are a few words of condolences to Arja - in Finnish. Arja, otamme osaa suureen suruusi poikasi menettämisen johdosta. Mieleen tulevat Aleksis Kiven runon sanat: Tuonen lehto, öinen lehto! Siell’ on hieno hietakehto, Sinnepä lapseni saatan. Muistamme Sinua surussasi. - Posted by: Pirkko and Pekka Pietiläinen (firends of Tony's mother, Arja) on: Apr 02, 2012

  • May there be comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. I have many fond childhood memories of Tony goofing around in Pointe du Bois during summer holidays. Even as a young boy Tony was always ready to have fun and he was often the source of entertainment. Many families from the Finnish community in Winnipeg share in your grief. Tony was a lot of things to many different people and he will always remain in our hearts. On behalf of myself and the Finnish Club, our heartfelt condolences to everyone in the family.
