DOREEN M. KABERNAGEL (nee SIGURDSON) Peacefully, on January 26, 2012, Doreen M. Kabernagel (nee Sigurdson) passed away at her home in Westminster, Maryland after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband Harry F. Kabernagel, her children Ann Chisholm (Gary), Sandy Kabernagel (Barb), Bruce Kabernagel (Rosie), as well as six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Doreen is also survived by her sister Eleanor Wilson (Harry) of Baltimore, MD, her two brothers Leonard (Mary) and Dennis (Barbara) Sigurdson, both of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Doreen graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 where she worked for two years. Following this she took post-graduate training in obstetrics at the Margaret Hague Hospital in New Jersey and later joined the staff at what used to be Women's Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Until her illness, she continued to be in close touch with her nursing friends and was an enthusiastic participant at their nursing reunions. Her Icelandic heritage was important to Doreen. Harry researched her family tree in Iceland, resulting in detailed records for all the family. A highlight for Doreen was the trip she and Harry took to Iceland, with a tour around the island that included a visit to the family homestead. Doreen was a great letter writer and she kept in close touch with a large group of friends and relatives over the years. She was always there to celebrate successes and sympathize with troubles, and everyone loved her for her thoughtfulness. She was a true people person who could always be counted on to give you a warm and happy greeting. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Interment has taken place and a remembrance service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
