JOAN BERNICE SPRUNT On Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Calvary Place, Joan Bernice Sprunt passed away at the age of 96. She was the wife of the late Ed (Ted) Sprunt and daughter of the late Ernest Cracknell and Louise Tomlin Cracknell. Joan is survived by daughter Susan Lou Sprunt. Her younger daughter MaryAnne Elizabeth predeceased her in June, 1989 and Ed in August, 1997. Joan was born and educated in Toronto. During the Second World War she served with the Canadian Red Cross Nursing Auxiliary. Following her marriage she and Ed moved from Toronto to Winnipeg and Charleswood. She was a member of the Charleswood Group of Artists in the early years. Music was special to her, as was dance. She had a long time interest in the Schools Orchestras. Over the years her writing has appeared in various publications including the now defunct Winnipeg World Magazine, the old Winnipeg Free Press Magazine, Toronto's Performing Arts and others. She loved nature and valued her friendships. I have been blessed with friends in this life. I'm thankful for this. I have truly loved them. Special thanks to all the staff at Calvary Place for their devotion and kind care, particularly Pastor Henry and nurse Bonita. Thanks to all the friends who have lent support during this difficult time. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Joan's memory may be made to Calvary Place 1325 Erin St. Winnipeg, R3E 3R6 or to Project Peacemakers, 745 Westminster Ave. Winnipeg, R3G 1A5. Funeral service will be held Friday April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in Calvary Place, 1325 Erin St., Winnipeg. Pastor H. Schulz, officiating. The sublimity of wisdom is to do those things living, which are to be desired when dying. (Norman Douglas) Oh! Would that I had!! And now it's too late! (Joan Sprunt)

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Hello Susan I was your " across the street" neighbour in the late 50s. I have often thought of you and the deep albeit brief influence your parents had on my artistic life. They were a model for an organic approach to life. I remember your Mother well. Cheers Rueben - Posted by: rueben gurr (childhood neighbour) on: May 23, 2012

I wish that I had had the chance to meet Great-Aunt Joan but am glad to know Susan. - Posted by: Lindsay Wyllie (Sprunt) (2nd Cousin) on: Apr 13, 2012
