MARY ANDREWS April 13, 1926 - April 6, 2012 Following a lengthy illness, Mary passed away on April 6, 2012 at St. Boniface Hospital. Mary was born in Pelly, SK and came to Winnipeg as a teenager in 1942. She met her one love, Andy, in 1944 and they were married on June 1, 1946. Following the births of their two children, they moved to St. Vital in 1956. They joined the Glenwheelers square dancing club shortly thereafter and from that group made many lifelong friends. Mary was employed by the T. Eaton Company and retired in 1986 after 25 years of service. She loved her work at Eaton's, and was promoted to manager prior to the opening of the new store in St. Vital where she oversaw ladies shoes, clocks and candy. She bought her first car at that time and loved driving to and from work, leaving Andy free to make dinner! Mary and Andy enjoyed many years of healthy and happy retirement, travelling to Europe, across Canada and to many destinations in the United States. If they weren't flying, their golf clubs were packed first into the car and they would stop to golf wherever they could. Mary excelled at most everything she undertook; she was a champion golfer, impossible to beat at crib, a bridge partner you would ask for. She knitted beautifully and had a green thumb for growing any kind of plant. Mary was a strong and courageous lady, and kept her sense of humour to the very end. Most important in Mary's life were her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andy in 2002, as well as siblings Annie, Steve and Nellie, and her son-in-law, Ken. She is survived by her children, son Bob and his wife Ann, (grandchildren Chloe, Chris and Kathryn and their families), daughter Peggy and partner, William McDonald (grandchildren Robert and Jennifer), siblings Catherine (Clarence), Harry (Olga) and Jean (George). The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Singer for many years of caring for Mary, and the Palliative Care Team at St. B. who provided exceptional care during her last weeks. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Friday, April 13 at 12:30 p.m. at Lions Riverside Estates, 188 Worthington Avenue. Additional parking is available at the Glenlee Community Club. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Program, St. Boniface Hospital, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg R2H 2A6 would be welcomed.

I only knew Mary through playing bridge. I remember her as always having a smile and being one of the best bridge players. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Sylvia Lindaas (friend) on: Apr 12, 2012

Aunty Mary will be missed. She was such a lady. She taught me to be happy in life, enjoy what you have and mostly to love golf and family. - Posted by: Judy Grant (Niece) on: Apr 10, 2012
