EDITH MAE PETURSSON (nee NORMAN) 1924 - 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Edith (Edie) Petursson, on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Deer Lodge Centre, at the age of 87 years. Remaining to forever cherish Edie's memory are her children: Dianne Brown (Don), Gaile Hiley (David), Susan Flynn (Patrick), Petur Petursson (Jackie), and Shirl Petursson (Martin Russell); grandchildren: Craig Brown, Erin Brown, Kathleen Hiley, Bryan Flynn (Maegan Rutherford), Lauren Helewa (Ramzi), Eric Flynn and Kimberly Petursson, who brought great joy to her life; sisters-in-law Suzanne Petursson and Chloe Norman; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Petur; parents, Claude and Bertha Norman; sisters, Ragna, Irene, Helen, Marion and Ina; and brothers, Bertram, Walter, Robert and Gilmore. Edie was born in Mulvihill, Manitoba on August 26, 1924. As a young woman she moved to Winnipeg and began working in the homes of affluent families. She was later employed by MacDonald Brothers Aircrafts during the war. She married her husband, Petur in 1945 and remained at home for many years to raise her family. Edie shared her caring nature and generosity as a foster parent to numerous children and ultimately provided family daycare services in her home. Edie loved life and family. She was the epitome of the word elegant and made every special event unforgettable. In her quiet, gentle way she taught those around her about love and compassion and always treated everyone with great respect. What a bright world this would be if every life was touched by someone like her! At Edie's request, no formal Funeral Service will be held. To celebrate her life, the family would like to invite all friends and extended family to a reception in Edie's home at 55 Turner Avenue on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. With the support of her family, Edie courageously faced numerous episodes of ill health. She was forever grateful for the skill of the many doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who cared for her and made her last few years possible. On Edie's behalf, the family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Y. J. Kotecha, Dr. Ralph Wong, and Kathy Kyryluk, R.N. who offered their exceptional support. Donations may be made in Edie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 or to a charity of one's choice.
