TONY PARRY December 30, 1922 - April 29, 2012 It is with deep regret and great sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Parry on April 29, 2012 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Tony lived life for 89 years and for the last 43 years made Winnipeg her home. Left to forever cherish Tony's memory are her sons Les (Carol) and John (Maria); grandchildren Chelsea, Brendan (Jackie), Steven, and Colin; sister Greet who resides in the Netherlands along with the many nieces and nephews also living there. Tony also made many close friends along the way and cherished them like family. Born in Holland, Tony spent the early part of her childhood in Indonesia prior to returning to Holland at the age of seven. At age 13 she and her beloved sister Greet were orphaned and then sheltered by a Dutch couple. During the Second World War occupation of Holland Tony served with the Dutch resistance as an underground long distance courier. After the occupation she worked for the British Army's Security Section as an Interpreter (she was fluent in Dutch, English, and German). In 1951 Tony came to Canada and the following year married a pilot in the R.C.A.F. After his discharge in 1957 they settled in Montreal until 1969 when the family moved to Winnipeg. In 1971 she returned to school and received a certificate in office administration. Tony then worked for the St. James School Division until her retirement in 1987. She loved to learn and received a lifelong Education degree from the University of Winnipeg for attending various courses on areas she was interested in. She also learned to speak Spanish at the University of Winnipeg. In Tony's spare time she loved going to the Assiniboine Park and the Forks, and spent a great deal of time there - much of it in company of her granddaughter, Chelsea. On Saturday, May 5, 2012 Tony's Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard. Special thanks to the staff at Lion's Manor and Charleswood Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony's memory may be made to charity of one's choice.
