NANCI MARTIN September 13, 1956 - May 20, 2012 With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Nanci Martin. Nanci was diagnosed with an illness that was just as rare and unique as she was. Nanci fought the illness to the very end with the love of her friends and family around her. We would like to thank the medical team at Vancouver General Hospital for the care and compassion they gave Nanci. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. James Community Square, 3214 West 10th Ave., Vancouver, June 1, 2012, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nanci's passion, Special Olympics B.C. A celebration of Nanci's life will be held in Winnipeg in the near future.

  • Lisa and Tony, you had the best big sister! I have fond memories of visiting your family home in the Norwood Flats, dressing up in your Mom's old costumes and having good old fun. Some of us who stayed put in Winnipeg may have envied Nanci for her ability to pick up and move away, but wherever she was, people found the same qualities of a friend and mentor that would have made it wasy for her to make friends anywhere. She will be missed. - Posted by: Patti Douglas (family friend) on: Jun 01, 2012

  • Always one to go the extra step and either make or help it happen. Wish I could have visited you on our trips the coast. Sincere condolences to those who had her close in their daily life. - Posted by: Myra. Kuhl (castelein) (Norwood flats school friend) on: May 31, 2012

  • I'll always remember Nanci to be that positve and energetic coach, full of inspiration and devotion to the athletes, and volunteers she met and mentored. We shared many laughs and Special O moments. To the end, Nanci always expressed how amazed she was with the athletes and their efforts, and was still full of emotion when speaking about them. She will be truly missed. added from another coach, I will remember Nanci as a person who is a genuine soul and as true a part of the Special Olympics family as one could be. I had the good fortune and privilege of spending many a cold winter morning snowshoeing on Cypress with her over the years. She always added a boost of energy to those bleary eyed bus rides up the mountain. I admire Nanci's wonderful sense of humor and straight up approach to coaching. She has greatly influenced the philosophy I have adopted towards coaching with Special Olympics and I am forever grateful for having known her. • I have worked with Nanci as her personal trainer for over 7 years. I will so miss training Nanci. She was always up for a challenge in the gym. The more complex the exercise the more excited she would get. She was a pleasure to work with, loved her energy and passion she had for exercise and life in general. She also makes the best cookies ever! - Posted by: Tiziana Ienna (Nanci's personal training) on: May 30, 2012
