MILDRED STEEK 1924-2012 Mildred Steek lived a wonderful life filled with energy, laughter, courage and love. She leaves a family and many friends grateful for having known her. Predeceased by her husband Victor, she will be lovingly remembered by her children, Tanis Cameron (Peter), Lindsey Steek and Garth Steek (Judith). Didi (named by her grandson Tyler) will always be loved by her grandchildren; Ryann (great-granddaughter, Emily) Tyler, Bryson, Amory, Scott, Harrison, Robin, Jonathan, and Katherine, for her passion for cribbage, the 23rd Psalm, and popover breakfasts at the family cottage. Mildred was passionate about everything she did; from nursing (class of 1946), to marriage and family. She loved gardening, entertaining, bridge and tennis. She developed lifelong friendships with people of all ages. She was remarkable! Thank you to the 4th Floor staff at the Lion's Manor. A very special thanks to Imelda, our family friend whose care, faith and love for Mom and our family, helped us all. A family prayer; Lord you have given us so much, we ask you give us one thing more-- a grateful heart we pray. Donations in Mildred's memory can be made to the Health Sciences Foundation or to the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Conservatory at Assiniboine Park, Friday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Dear Lindsay I saw your mother's obituary and wanted to pass on my deepest condolences for your loss. I remember your Mom being a lady who loved her family, her community and having a great joie de vivre . I have great memories of days at the cottage, the Winter club and your mom's warm hospitality. • The name Mild holds many vivid memories but my favourite, more recent one was down at the lake in her cottage. She pointed to a plaque on the wall and had me read it to her: If a man loses his money he's lost nothing, if a man loses his health he's lost something, if a man loses his integrity he's lost everything. She went on to explain it to me at great length to make sure I understood and agreed. I've often reflected on that, how true! Thanks Mild for being a woman of integrity. - Posted by: Ruth Rennie (friend) on: Jun 20, 2012

  • Our family was so sorry to hear of your loss. Also sorry to not be able to be at her service today to celebrate her memory. She was a kind gracious woman who was very sweet to my daughter. - Posted by: Margaret Mitchell (Church friend) on: Jun 01, 2012

  • So sorry to hear of your loss. Mildred was always upbeat and gracious. We always enjoyed seeing and chatting with her at church. We had a nice visit at the Manor with her at Christmas. She will be missed! Jim & Bev and family - Posted by: The Gowler Family (Church friends) on: Jun 01, 2012

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. I remember Aunt Mil's comforting voice. She was always welcoming to family & friends. I treasure the childhood memories when we were invited out to the cottage. It was there that I had the opportunity of trying her famous (to me any way) peach cobbler. Thanks for the memories Aunt Mil. - Posted by: Brad Oliver (nephew) on: Jun 01, 2012

  • Lindsay, Tanis, Garth and family (and grandchildren too!!), my heart and thoughts are with you all at this very difficult time. I remember my aunt Mil (a kid then myself) as a lovely, wonderful, gracious lady, who was always warm, welcoming and genuine. She certainly knew how to throw a great family Christmas gathering too!; all those delicious homemade goodies, the music and ping-pong! (remember?! - oh what fun we had!) and ultimately a wonderful opportunity to visit with her, my dear Uncle Vic and of course, my very special cousins. So many good memories ... :) - Posted by: Tracy Oliver Middleton (Niece) on: May 31, 2012
