MARTHA PENNER It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Martha Jane Penner, at the age of 68, on June 14, 2012, at her residence. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Russel Penner, their four sons, Darren and Gloria, Curt and Crystal, Terry and Bev, Dwayne and Jenn and their grandchildren Nicole, Daniel, Shannon, Melissa, Mackenzie and Jillian. She also leaves to mourn her mother Olga Penner, Winnipeg, MB, brothers Calvin (Ruth), Winkler, MB, Henry (Sally) Isle of Wight, UK, sisters Leona Penner, Edmonton, AB, and Viola (Clay) Bilous, Winnipeg, MB, sister-in-law Ann Penner, Winnipeg, MB, and a special aunt, Louise Klassen. She was predeceased by her dad Peter Henry Penner and her brother Richard Penner and a special aunt , Renetta Klassen. She also leaves to mourn Russel's family, many nieces, nephews and friends. Martha Jane Penner was born on March 19, 1944, to Peter and Olga Penner of Sperling, MB. Mom spent the first three years of her life there, and then the family moved to North Kildonan, Winnipeg. Mom attended North Kildonan MB Church where she was actively involved and was baptized upon the confession of her faith at the age of 16. Her faith always remained strong and carried her throughout her whole life. Mom married Russel Penner on May 28, 1983, at the Steinbach United Church. Together they started Ridgewood Farm Equipment in 1983, in the Giroux area where they raised their four boys. Mom loved working alongside Dad at Ridgewood serving the customers. Dad is convinced that some of the customers came to Ridgewood simply to chat with Mom. In 1996, Mom and Dad bought Keystone Agri-Motive and in 2004, they added another business by purchasing Penner Trailers. When we as a family were asked what Mom's job was Crystal stated it the best by saying Mom was the CEO of Dad's life. After having lived in a house full of boys, Mom was very happy to welcome daughters-in-law into the family. Mom whole heartedly embraced the role of Oma and was very involved in all her grandchildren's lives. Mom had many adopted children and grandchildren over the years, people just gravitated towards Mom's genuine, loving and welcoming personality. She was always generous with her hugs and as one person stated that if Mom knew you for an hour, she loved you forever. On January 12, 2006, Mom and Dad were in a truck accident that changed the course of their life forever. Through all the surgeries and the rehabilitation Mom proved once again she was a fighter. A fall in the hospital one month after the accident, and another surgery seemed to be too much for Mom and she never walked again. Mom came home from the hospital in September 2006. In the last year we as a family started noticing Mom could participate in less activities. She started to eat less and her strength waned. On June 14, 2012, with Russel, Kathy and Darren at her side she went to her eternal home. We want to thank all the many people who have taken care of Mom over the years, Joyelle Sayer, Greta Fehr, Dr. Karen Toews, palliative care and many others. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Gail Harms for the five years she was a full-time care giver and for her unconditional love for Mom. Also to Aunt Kathy, we can't express how much we appreciate all you have done for Mom and our whole family. Mom, we love you, we miss you and there is a void in our family that will never be filled. Viewing for Martha Penner will be held Monday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at the Ridgewood EMC Church. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ridgewood EMC Church, with interment at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Southeast Helping Hands. Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1V7, phone 204-346-1030.

We are so glad we got to see her and spend that brief time with her and you when we were in Steinbach 4 years ago!! Our children remember her as she babysat our kids a fair bit when they were little and we still lived in Winnipeg!! • I will always remember Martha for her great laughs and fabulous hugs! We were part of the same Ladies bible study group for years. She had a passion for life and helping others. Cooking. Prayer warrior. Hugs. Her sparkling blue eyes. Even after her accident when I met her, she may not have recognized me, but her eyes still shone. You will be remembered fondly Martha! Many will miss you! Love and prayers to the grieving Family. - Posted by: Adeline Loewen (Acquaintance) on: Jun 18, 2012
