MONA DIXON
Born: May 07, 1920
Date of Passing: Jun 14, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONA DIXON (née COVE) May 7, 1920 - June 14, 2012 Mum quit smoking today, peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Grace Hospital with her family by her side. Left to forever cherish Mum's memory are her children, Dennis (Sue) Donna (Dennis) Mona Lee (Jorge); seven Grandchildren; 12 Great-Grandchildren; and her older twin sister, Marion. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon and five siblings. Mona was born in Brandon, MB to Earnest and Edith Cove, the second of seven children. She graduated from Daniel MacIntyre Colligate, where she was a Manitoba Champion and International speed skater but later in life realized that ice was really for curling. Curling was Mum's passion starting at Victoria Curling Club with a short stop at the Regina Curling Club, then in 1962 moving to the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club where she spent many years as a player notably as a Manitoba Golden Gal Champion in 1984. She actively supported the game by officiating and serving on various committees at the club and provincial levels culminating with being President of the MLCA in 1977/78. She was recognized for her contributions on and off the ice by being granted a life time membership at the AMCC and Honourary Life member of the MLCA. One of Mum's fondest memories was curling with family in Gstaad Switzerland in 1979. Between curling seasons we got a little bit of Mum's time. She enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends and the last few years in Spruce Sands at Mona's Cove. Mum loved a party and will hate to miss the Celebration of her life. A Celebration of Mum's Life will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport West, 2520 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mona's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

Mona certainly had a great sense of humour, as Chris shared some funny stories with us of family holiday celebrations.
