JEAN TERESA ROSE On Monday, June 25, 2012, Jean died with family members at her side in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 81 years. Remembering Jean are her children; Janet Rose of Nanton, AB, Dave Rose (Cindy) of Calgary, AB, and Don Rose (Jacqueline) of Winnipeg, MB, and by her grandchildren Colin and Megan, and Kirsten, Hayden, Ashley and Tyler. Jean was born October 20, 1930, in Preston, England, the only child of Robert and Ellen Kay. While in high school she played the piano-accordion in a band. Ballroom dancing became her greatest joy. After completing high school Jean worked as an assistant in Culshaw's Pharmacy, and it was there that she met her future husband, a medical student, Lewis Craig Rose. She received her Pharmacy degree in 1952, from the University of Liverpool. They married in 1953, and in January of 1960, moved to Canada with her two eldest children, Janet and David. They settled in Brandon, MB, where Fraser and Donald were born. Fraser passed away in 1963. Adventurous, Jean became a private pilot at the Brandon Flying Club, and an avid member of the 99's Ladies Pilots Association. The T-33 jet aircraft prominently displayed at the Brandon Airport is due to their efforts. Jean was also a keen tennis player and supporter of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Later, in Winnipeg she returned to her youthful passion for ballroom dance. She was an avid dancer, progressing through to the top levels of amateur ballroom dancing, and attended many competitions across North America, developing lifelong friends through this experience. Jean's career as a pharmacist was applied in many locales; Brandon, Winnipeg, Canmore, AB, and Northern Manitoba where she counseled First Nations residents on their medications. In 2006, she retired from pharmacy and moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to her friends and Don's young family. On Saturday, June 30, 2012, a Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Mainstay Inn and Suites, 670 King Edward Street, Winnipeg, MB. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
