KATHERINE BEREZOWSKI With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our Mother and grandmother, Katherine Berezowski, on Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Tony Berezowski in 1968. She leaves to mourn her two sons, Terry and Ken, granddaughter Keanna and daughter-in-law Joanne. Katherine was born in St. Phillips, Saskatchewan, on February 15, 1912. With her family, friends and staff from St. Joseph's Residence, we celebrated her 100th birthday this year. Mom started a successful catering business, Berezowski Catering, until she retired. She enjoyed travelling to Vancouver to visit Terry and enjoyed their car rides through Stanley Park. Katherine treasured her numerous visits with Ken, Joanne and Keanna. With the birth of her granddaughter, Keanna, it gave Mom a new life to enjoy. Granny especially loved when Keanna would visit her and share about her activities at school and at home. Keanna was the joy of Mom's life and brought a smile to Granny's face. Granny enjoyed playing bingo, attending mass and visiting with the staff and residents at St. Joseph's Residence, her home for over 17 years. The family would like to thank Dr. Fogel for his care in the community and Dr. Babick and all the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their compassionate care of Mom. Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Residence at 1149 Leila Ave., on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. I. Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to St. Joseph's Residence, 1149 Leila Ave. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Korban Funeral Chapel 956-2193

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Terry being an old friend of 50 years ago, I knew his mother and family very well. Mrs. Berezowski even catered our wedding 47 years ago. Yes, she was a very special woman. Please accept our deepest sympathy to you Terry and the rest of your family. Diane(nee Muzyka) & Robert Fraser - Posted by: Diane (nee Muzyka) & Robert Fraser (Old Friend) on: Jun 28, 2012

  • My deepest condolences to you Terry, Ken, Joanne, and Keana, on the passing of your mother, mother-in-law, and granny. She touched many people's lives, as she lived at St. Joseph's. She was more than just a resident, she was a strong, Ukrainian, woman with a great love for God, all people and family, as she used her stories and life to teach us all many different lessons. Just with you visiting her, and seeing Keana going from a little child to the young woman, that she has blossomed in to is very amazing. It is also with gratitude to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, that even though she was not part of the large community, she was still part of the Church community as Fr. Damian continued to bring her Holy Communion, they never forgot her. It is sad to see Katherine go, because a another page has closed in the "Book of St. Joseph Residence", but at the same time we are grateful and thankful that she is with Him (the Lord) who has sustained her all these years. God Bless you all as He consoles you with his presence, in the loss of this wonderful woman. VICHNAYA PAMYAT - Posted by: Vince Kaskiw (Health Care Aide St. Joseph's Residence) on: Jun 28, 2012

  • I have known Mrs. Berezowski for over 17 years, when she came to live with us at St. Joseph's Residence. You could tell there were many different things that were important to her. You could tell she had been a caterer, which I don't think ever left her; she definitely loved her food, and would want to have porridge and scrambled eggs for breakfast at 4 a.m. She also loved her Ukrainian heritage, and her perogies and cabbage rolls. She said these weren't bad at St. Joseph's but they weren't as good as hers had been. Katherine was also a very devoted Catholic, in her faith and in her God. She loved going to daily mass and rosary, and on Saturdays when she was more well. She always appreciated Divine Liturgy, and the many visits from Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, from St. Nicholas, when he would visit her and bring her Holy Communion; even though she was away from the parish, he never forgot about her. She also loved her family very much, and not just her immediate family, she would talk about her sister-in-law Vicky, and other family members. But her family was very important to her, her love for you all, and your love for her too, which she experienced very much. She was very proud of you, and all your accomplishments in life great and small. It was nice to celebrate her 100th Birthday on February 15th this year. We would do a countdown of days the last month prior to her 100th Birthday on nights. She has seen much in her lifetime and experienced much change also, especially even with the sudden passing of your father Tony. It was quite a blessing to be on with her and with you, when she left and passed away the other morning, as she took her final breath when the Lord called her home from St. Joseph's to be with him forever in paradise, where she was reunited with your Dad and Grandpa Tony, her parents, and her other family members. We loved her also very much, and she has left a void in our lives also. She is now at peace. Vichnaya Pamyat, may Her Memory be Eternal. - Posted by: Vince Kaskiw (Health Care Aide St. Joseph's Residence) on: Jun 27, 2012
