KEN MARKEVICH
Born: Sep 25, 1934
Date of Passing: Aug 20, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKEN MARKEVICH It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Ken passed on August 20, 2012 after fighting cancer for almost two years. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Gladys, his daughter Tracy (Kelvin), sons Trevor (Kathy), Kevin (Sandy) and Keith (Mandy), as well as eight grandchildren. Also mourning his loss are siblings Tom, Herb and Betty along with many nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins and friends. He was preceded by his parents, one brother and three sisters. Ken was born on September 25, 1934 in East Selkirk, growing up on the family homestead where many fun times and happy memories were made. Then Ken met, courted and married Gladys, and they soon after settled in North Kildonan where they ended up living on the same street for over 50 years. While raising the family Ken was employed in the plumbing industry for over 50 years, the last 25 of which he worked at Westburne/Wolseley where he enjoyed his job and co-workers. After retirement Ken spent many hours working with each of his three sons helping them build their businesses. Ken was such a great grandfather to all of his grandchildren. The many trips to Tinkertown are some of the fondest memories they made together. Most importantly Ken worked at his dedication and service to his God, Jehovah as one of Jehovah's Witnesses for decades. He derived great pleasure and hope in God's promise of living forever in paradise as promised in the Bible and his family now, too, find great comfort in knowing that they will soon see him there. - Rev. 21:3,4. As we mourn his passing we also take comfort in the happy memories and the legacy that Ken (our dad) left us with. The family wants to say a special thanks to everyone for the visits, cards and flowers Ken got, especially when he became house-bound and then hospitalized for the last week of his life. Also thanks to the Palliative Care team and nursing staff on the third floor of the Concordia Hospital for your kindness and attentiveness during the week Ken was in your care. A memorial service will be on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall Center of Jehovah's Witnesses, 227 Lakewood Blvd. with Mark Kozub officiating.

Ken and I worked together at Cronkhite Company Ltd for a number of years .We worked out a system for cutting the time required to do a complete year end inventory count in one evening instead of the normal three days that it usually took. Ken decided that prior to inventory, about two weeks in advance, we would get the half dozen countermen to start counting small plumbing fittings and insert the counted items into plastic bags. This worked so well, that I understand, he used this idea when Cronkhite closed and Ken went to work for Westburne Plumbing Wholesale. Ken and I got along very well during the time that we worked together. Ken's time on earth was too short. I am now 83 but I still remember favorably of the good working relationship we had. Dearest Gladys. My sincerest condolences. I know you will miss Ken terribly, you had a wonderful life with him. I was driving home Sat afternoon and for some strange reason you came into my mind, and I felt that I must phone you as if something was wrong. A few days later I heard of Ken's passing. I will phone you but thought perhaps it was too soon. Ken was a very nice person and loved you dearly. I know your family will be a great comfort to you. Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. Gladys, I have fond memories of the days I pioneered in "Bird'Hill Congregation" and the times I baby sat Tracey and Trevor, as well as the fellowship we had together. What a wonderful hope we have in the near future and it won't be long before we welcome Ken back to the "real life" Jehovah has promised. My thoughts are with you. I've only known Ken for 10 years but, in those 10 years I've come to appreciate his kindness, love and humor. Over these past few years he's become a Grandfather to me. I will miss his smile...but I am grateful for the many photos I have to look back on. I will forward to seeing him again one day. I miss you and love you. - Posted by: Larysa (Granddaughter in-law) on: Aug 24, 2012

Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Ken was such a pillar in the congregation for so many years and will be missed by us all. His good teaching skills and sense of humour will always be remembered fondly with a smile to our faces. I (Rob) remember the day my own father passed away, that Ken and Gladys were the first ones to drop in on my mom and I that evening. The comfort they brought that time meant more than words could say. We hope this finds everyone well, under the circumstances. A special big hug to Gladys and a special hello to Kevin, Sandy and family. Our love to you all and may Jehovah comfort and bless you. Take care! - Posted by: Rob and Heather McLaughlin () on: Aug 24, 2012
