Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Omar was my high school principal, and Omar and June were great friends of our family. Judging by stories and memoirs I have read, I would say that it is fairly rare to have loved your school principal, but I loved him deeply. I didn't become a teacher because of him per se: I had already decided that more or less in grade one or two, but I think I became the kind of teacher and then professor of whom I think he would have approved. One of the smartest people I've ever met, and, more importantly, he had an extraordinarily generous spirit. He was passionately committed to his family and his community and loved the Birch River area. Love to June and the Lamb families. - Posted by: Pamela (student) on: Oct 11, 2012

  • Omar was my Gr.11 History teacher (1965) and our Anglican reverend in Birch River. He was an excellent teacher and an even better storyteller!! He called our class 'reprobates'and knuckleheads but secretly, he loved us dearly. It was because of him that I went into teaching (now retired after 35 years of teaching) and I'd like to believe that I told almost as good a story (as he did) to my students. Omar was my choice as master of ceremonies for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary..what an honour for our family!! To you, Mrs. Lamb and family, I offer my heartfelt condolences. We were all made better people by his influence in our lives. May time bring you healing and may Omar forever stay in your memories. I know that I will never forget him and his positive influence in my life. Rest in peace, dear friend! - Posted by: Clayton Kemp (student) on: Oct 11, 2012

  • My grandfather was an amazing person. I feel so blessed that I had him in my life for so long. Many of my students have never known their grandparents and I always feel so very fortunate that I still have had a lifetime with mine. He was my principal when I started school; my guardian with grandma June as I grew up and lived life; my friend and colleague as an educator; and my friend and confidant. He has always had time for all he knew, and he always had wise words and jovial comments and conversation for those in his family as well. We all have so much to be thankful for, particularly this Thanksgiving, having my grandfather, Omar, in our lives. We miss you, we love you, we are proud to be part of you. Thank you Grandpa. - Posted by: Tanya Lamb (Grand daughter) on: Oct 08, 2012

  • Mr. Lamb was principal in my early years at Birch River School. I remember him being a great presence in those halls. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Tracy (former student) on: Oct 04, 2012

  • I will always cherish all the memories of our weekends at your Birch River farm. It was always a real treat to visit the farm, be up close to the animals, and spend time with all my cousins. Not to mention all the great food churned out by Auntie June and Auntie Ann. Camping at Steep Rock lake, man, it doesn't get any better than that for a kid from Winnipeg !!! Thanks for the memories...xo to the family - Posted by: SUSAN LINDA RUPERTO (Nee-Lamb) (Niece) on: Oct 03, 2012
