DR. BRIAN BROOKER
Date of Passing: Oct 05, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. BRIAN BROOKER Brian passed away suddenly on Friday, October 5, 2012, after a lengthy illness of mitochondrial myopathy. Mourning his loss is the love of his life Lil, married for 35 years and his adoring children Melanie, Michael, Samantha and Andrew. He leaves his beautiful grandsons Hartley and Avery. He also leaves his mother Alice Brooker, brothers Gary (Pamela) Brooker and Stuart (Pamela Weizel) Brooker, brother-in-law Bill Matthes, nieces Alana (Matt Joudrey), Ivy, Rachel, Orly and nephew Noah. He leaves his uncles Norman Fogel (Esther), Michael Fogel and aunt Rhina Brooker. Our special aunt Ethel Kushner as well as our extended family Ian and Elaine Goldstine, Daniel (Mindy Eklove) and Jason (Gen Cloutier); Danny Globerman, Adam (Dobrochna), Noah (Sam), and Simmie (Kevin Minuk); Susan and Gary Harrison, Becky (Gil Spanglet), Daniel and Zachary; Sharon Zalik (Gord Kay),Ronit and Kari; Marcia Paul, Dylan and Liam. Brian was predeceased by his father Larry Brooker and in laws Bill and Lil Matthes. Brian suffered with colitis in his early teens but it never stopped him from being the man he was and the man he wanted to be. Brian never complained, even after many surgeries and struggles. In the last five years Brian suffered from health issues and only in the last four months was he given a definitive diagnosis of mitochondrial myopathy. The days his two daughters were married and the birth of his grandsons were the happiest times for Brian. They truly brought him so much joy during so much turmoil. Brian was an extremely gifted Pathologist who further educated himself in the areas of Pathophysiology and Forensic Pathology. Brian loved fixing things and figuring out how they worked. He would work on the many motorcycles he had over the years tweaking them just how he liked them. Before his illness made him incapable to ride his motorcycle, he would often ride early morning rides on his Yamaha FJR 1300 to Lockport. He loved the open feeling of the road. We would like to thank the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services as well as doctors and colleagues Dr. Ken VanAmeyde, Dr. Mallory Fast, Dr. Fred Aoki, Dr. Cheryl Greenberg and Dr. Frank Martin. A very special thank you to Brian's nurse and friend Val, who quickly became a confidante for Brian. Thank You to Rabbi Alan Green and Estelle Raber. There are no words to express the love and support we have received from everyone. Lastly, thank you to our dearest friend, Dr. Ian Goldstine, for speaking so beautifully at the funeral. Pallbearers were Dr. Adam Globerman, Mr. Noah Globerman, Mr. Daniel Goldstine, Mr. Jason Goldstine, Mr. Zachary Harrison and Ms. Ronit Zalik. Honorary Pallbearers were Dr. Ian Goldstine, Dr. Danny Globerman and Mr. Gary Harrison. Donations may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Winnipeg or to a charity of your choice.

"My Dear Dr. Brooker" I used to address him, mimicking his slightly gravelly voice....as Watson would have addressed Sherlock Holmes. Brian always retorted : ..."Dr. L" in a similar fashion..... right on cue....this shtick went on for years. What a gem of a friend, always in good humour. A brilliant pathologist, Brian was never arrogant...always generous of time and energy. Gone too early my friend but ever present in spirit. Condolences to your family. - Posted by: Moe Lerner (Friend and colleague) on: Nov 04, 2012
