KENNETH WALTER PENNER 1947 - 2012 On the evening of Sunday, October 7, 2012, Ken Penner of Winnipeg, MB passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the St. Boniface Memorial Hospital. Ken was born in Winkler, MB on April 19, 1947 to Susan (nee Froese) and Henry Penner and married to Mary Penner (nee Friesen) in April of 1969. After moving to Winnipeg, Ken joined the Ironworkers Union Local 728 as a welder and later served the membership as the Manitoba chapter's Business Manager. With a great deal of drive, dedication and passion, Ken was instrumental in establishing an apprentice program to help train new welders in Manitoba. After retiring in 2009, Ken was free to pursue his love of golf as a member at the Roland Golf Club and by playing courses all around Southern Manitoba. Above all, Ken was a loving and devoted family man and will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary, daughter, Theressa, son, Curtis and granddaughters, Alisha and Jessica. Funeral service will be held at Wiebe Funeral Home 121 8th St. in Winkler on Friday, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. Viewing will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens, Winkler. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ken's life over a light luncheon after the service.   • Ken was a true friend and union brother. We worked many jobs together and always shared many laughs and on job pranks. One of my most fun and memorable jobs I worked with Ken was at the bomber stadium. We were both welders on the site and teasing each other was always ongoing.
