JOSEPH LOUIS KOZAK September 23, 1931 - October 22, 2012 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joe at the age of 81 years, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn Joe's memory are his wife Rose of 62 years of marriage; daughters Linda, Karen (Danny); granddaughters Carleigh, Kayla; grand dog Jasper; sisters Bernice, Helen (Bob), Lillian; sister-in-law Jean Kozak; and brother-in-law Al Penny; as well as extended family nieces; nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Dmytro, siblings Pearl, Paul and Steve. Dad worked at Inland Cement from May 1965 until his retirement. He enjoyed the race track and playing the one armed bandits. He loved a good game of Euchre with the gang on a Saturday night where they laughed, talked, joked and shared a few drinks. Dad enjoyed sports and loved to tease mom about the Toronto Blue Jays. His granddaughters were the apple of his eye, the love he had for them was special like only a grandfathers love can be. Over the years Mom and Dad made numerous friends at McDonalds over a cup of coffee. After coffee they would make their regular stops at Shoppers and Safeway where once again several friends were made. In compliance with Dad's wishes, a private family Interment will be held. Family and friends are invited to gather on October 26, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard for a reception in memory of Dad. Special thanks to Dr. J. Johnston and Nurse Erin Streu for the excellent care they gave to dad over the past 12 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in dad's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Until we meet again, Love you forever.

  • We are very sorry to hear of uncle Joe's passing. Our deepest sympathies to auntie Rose, Linda, Karen and Danny. Unfortunately we will not be able to attend the remembrance. We will be visiting our son and family in Edmonton but I do wish to share a memory from many Christmas's ago at Baba's home. Probably no one will remember that uncle and I had a perogie eating contest (baba's were the best!). I don't remember who won but I had 17! That is my fondest memory of uncle Joe, he always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. - Posted by: Shirley & Gilles Bibeau (niece) on: Oct 25, 2012
