ROBERT M. (BOB) GLESBY It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, Bob passed away at the age of 76. He will be forever missed by his wife of 56 years, Ann, his children, Deb and Rob (Arlene) and granddaughters Jennifer, Ava and Abby. He is also survived by his brother Brian, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Morris and brothers, Roy and Bill. Bob was born in Winnipeg on March 12, 1936. He worked as a Driving Instructor and then in an office job at the City of Winnipeg before finding his niche at the Highways Department of the Province of Manitoba, where he worked for 27 years. He loved all the aspects of his role - snowclearing after blizzards, rescuing people on the highways, travelling the winter roads, firefighting up north, summer road repair and all the equipment he learned to operate - the bigger the better! Bob retired in 1993 and began a new chapter of his life. He and Ann spent the fairweather months at the cottage at Caddy Lake. Bob was a planner - any time you saw him staring into space you knew that he had a new project in mind. He loved spending time there and was always busy doing something. He was always there for any of the family or neighbours to lend a helping hand. He took pride in teaching the young ones to waterski and spent many weekends behind the wheel of the boat. For many years, Bob curled at the West St. Paul Curling Club, but also spared for various other clubs. Funeral services will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pat Harris and the Oncology Department, as well as all the staff on the 3rd floor at Concordia Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

  • I just learned today of Bob's passing. Deeply saddened at this news. Bobby and I spent many years working together....NEVER was there a dull moment. No-one would believe the stories I could tell that I have of our shinannigans. Bob had more balls than any man that I have ever known...and I know many many people. I admired him for this as he was already a "legend" at highways when I started as a kid of 17. I never dreamed that someday I would be working beside him for many years. We trucked all over this province....and had a total blast on every trip. I know you will have to pass a few exams to get through the "pearly gates" ol bud.....but when u do get there....there will most certainly be a buzz when the "Glezz" is around. RIP O'l warrior....I will never forget you my dear friend. Deepest sympathies to Ann, Robbie, Debbie and families. - Posted by: Linden Johnson (co-worker and dear friend) on: Nov 19, 2012

  • RIP Uncle Bob, you will be missed. Thinking of the family at this difficult time. Love Trudy - Posted by: Trudy Glesby (Niece) on: Nov 13, 2012

  • Very sorry that Bob has left us, I thought very highly of him and respected Bob's acomplishments in life. When I first met Bob many years ago I thought he was a bit of a hard ass, but after time I saw the other side of Bob - a kind and caring man who as described in the obit was always there to lend a helping hand. I thought Bob was the jack of all trades I don't think there wasn't anything he couldn't fix when came to things around the house or cottage. He always had a opinion on just about any subject, there wasn't anything that Bob couldn't converse on. I am happy that I had a chance to say good bye to Bob the time we spoke in the phone. I am lucky to have known Bob, I will always remember him as a Man's man as they say, he was one of a kind. Rest in peace Mr Glesby - Posted by: Norman Monkman (friend) on: Nov 11, 2012
